got a 50 dollar reward deal thingy to use and this is the only rack I don't have, that seems well mind blowing... it seems insane,,, is it controllable, or is it crazy random stuff forever?... or both :?: ... hefty price ... worth it? :?: :!: :?: I do have fritz already... this is fritz on steroids though... lol( but my offer to buy the company for 50 reward points stands)

Its a good one. A bit expensive when it came out and its even more expensive at the moment. Its several Grains in one without the different algorithms of Grain. The plus is a big mod matrix and a lot of modulation curves. Its a cool device to play around and get unpredictable results.

Worth the full price? Meehh...no, not really. You can stick with Grain. Half price? Maybe...if you look for a little bit different toy.

Alternatives: Fritz, Grain, Glitchmachines.

thanks ... intriguing rack... would grab it at half price... my question is at full price,,,, would I really get results that merit that kind of price...one of the most expensive racks I don't have. I like warping stuff... but this is next level warpig for me... likely would not fit the music I am making... would surely spawn other ideas though

Like Loque says...Glitchmachines. Bang on if you like warping and mangling. They’re often on sale with 90% off on Plugin Boutique. Be aware that there’s a Palindrome 2 in the way. Also...”Rewards”??? Nah!!!

Yea, start with the free ones. Also checout the sample packs and put them into Grain and other manglers. They have also a few predecessor somwhere and i liked this one very much (great distortion sound imo, some setting is a bit buggy i thinkg, but its free and sounds good):

Torsion is awesome! I’d wait to grab it on sale... unless you like paying full price for things. The Panda wouldn’t mind. :)

I quite liked it when I tried it, but the price seemed a little steep. If Reason was still pre-VST I'd probably get it, but there are just so many great VST options out there for granular sample mangling that Torsion doesn't seem all that essential

On the other hand, I'm a huge Lectric Panda fan so will probably pick it up if it ever goes on sale. It's really well designed and fun to work with

I have it and love it. I don't think it gets enough attention or love and I'm not sure why that is. As with all LP products, you gotta love that random button. You can mutate your audio clip into a wide range of different sounds. I like to use 2 of these with the GroovyMelon Crossfade tool. This is also great to play with Fritz slapped behind it in the chain.

You should definitely give it a try if you haven't, and buy it in the next sale. I think it is far more capable of mutating sounds than Grain. It has a wider range of ability. And, as mentioned earlier, it has that random button which will give you some really great results with little effort. Don't like what you hear, click random again.
Players are to MIDI what synthesizers are to waveforms.

I have it. Got it via rewards.
I don’t use it as much as I’d like to. I wish there were in depth videos explains this units workflow lol

I know it has mad potential but I use uhbik G for those sounds

However, I know when I did use it. It was really fun to make FX sounds. I just wish it had a melodic mode.
Maybe panda can make a torsion 2.0
Or something based off of the granular concept.

I love pandas devices, but I need to spend more time with everything that’s not nostromo lol

No, it's not polyphonic, but it could be with some creative wiring and an instance of Tap Player.
Of course, you know that. I've seen some of your complicated wiring setups.

  just downloaded it :puf_wink: so have not had much time to fiddle with it yet... but love what it does. In the middle of a computer platform upgrade, so I have multiple things happening with different plugs, system and gear... I'll report back once the dust settles

I love playing with Torsion. It's capable of so much. Here's a quick patch I made using 2 Torsions with a crossfader between them. I took a few boring cello samples and turned them into something interesting with a lot of texture. The sound samples loaded are from Reason's Factor Soundbank, so they should play. I just hit random buttons a bunch of times until I got something interesting (I deselected the loop position and sample zooms). This patch requires GroovyMelon's Crossfade & Lectri Panda's Shape (you could substitute any LFO, really, could even use Torsion's on-board LFOs). Sometimes I prefer to use the crossfade to mix the sounds of two devices, as opposed to "sample" knob, because the sample know isn't as smooth a transition as the crossfade can be.

Don't forget that there are up to 3 different 'grains" (maybe channels is a good way to think of it) that can be played at the same time. So there are endless possibilities of what you can do with one instance of Torsion thanks to these 3 grain channels. This makes up for this device being monophonic (although that can be overcome as I pointed out earlier in this thread). Oh, and don't forget to turn the grain channels on and off by hitting the "gate" button. That's basically the on/off switch for each grain channel.

Something I like to do when using the random button is to only select one grain channel at a time for randomization. So I will randomize Grain 1 until I am happy with it. Then do the same thing with Grain 2. Then Grain 3. It's a great way to gain some control over the randomization. You can also deselect other things that you are happy with, such as the modulation matrix, so randomization will leave them alone. This is the same for ALL Lectric Pando devices with that little random dice button and wrench next to it. <3 the Panda!

After circling for a while I just got this thing with my reward points and it's pretty nuts. Getting better results of a certain type than any of the reaktor granularisers I've used. Sort of retains more of the integrety of the source material, which is what I'm after.
As people have mentioned, theres always Grain etc but the random button and mod matrix on Torsion...You just can't get that lost without it, or at least not that fast. Plus the ability to select which parameters you'r randomising or not...it's brilliant.

Thanks LP!

The manual is pretty straight forward in this regard. Vids would be to long winded.

It's pretty cool.. it's kinda fun to put dialogue samples in it and see what happens.. load up all the slots with the same dialogue sample and see what it comes up with.. sometimes I'll just mix down a few different randomized results and then pick the parts I like and mix those down as well .. I need to mess around with it more cuz I haven't been using it much...
