Is Audacity still safe to use?

Want to talk about music hardware or software that doesn't include Reason?

I am not going to share any youtube videos (opinions). If someone has a definitive answer Audacity is not a spyware I want to know. I uninstalled it. I use Wavosaur for my quick edits.

I'd just block it from accessing the internet, like I do with most programs.

I would have more concerns using social media platforms than using audacity and was happily using it today...

Code: Select all

The data collected includes OS version and name, user country based on IP address, the CPU being used, data related to Audacity error codes and crash reports, and finally "Data necessary for law enforcement, litigation and authorities' requests (if any)."
If you're concerned about that then you should probably put a tinfoil hat on and stop using the internet ;)

In my opinion, this is far better anyway (and free) Windows, Mac OS X and Linux - no need to use anything else!

Thanks for posting this link.
Question: Does Ocenaudio allow for you to record media that your computer is playing (what you hear)? That's really the main reason I used Audacity.
Players are to MIDI what synthesizers are to waveforms.

I was going to install Audacity a while ago to steal Tibetan thighbone trumpet sounds from YouTube. But I never did.

They are a great gift as ready to cook Thanksgiving birds for recycled friends and family too.

Audacity is useful for two things for me:
  • Noise Reduction - it is great for removing hum from noisy audio tracks
  • Saving a finished track to different formats (flac, mp3, ogg, etc)
So, if the alternatives mentioned here offer that functionality then I will check them out.
