Totally! And all can easily be achieved with plugins. But you know this already.MarkTarlton wrote: ↑19 Jun 2021reverse reverb is a pretty standard shoegaze effect, depending on what band you're going for, some use chorus too, and don't forget delay
try using overdrive/distortion into the reverb

It’s tough - we get so many requests to approve first posts with random subjects, most of which we decline. But this one was pretty specific, and I’m an old school MBV fan. I figured even if the OP bailed on the thread (and the forum), we’d have a meaningful discussion. I was not wrong.

hello,
i am glad this thread is still going
i am looking to 'build' a shoegaze pedal board
loaded with the dimi kuassa amp presets
i went through the guitar patch thread and grabbed a lot of patches
so i bought the kuassa efektor bundle and amplifikation bundle
to complete my kuassa package (thanks for the encouragement MrFigg)
i am trying to decide which expression pedals to get:
the nektar expression pedal or the m audio pedal (which has a polarity switch and a trim knob)
i don't perform live
i'm looking at the nektar pacer with 2 additional expression pedals
the behringer pedal board only has midi connection (thanks, Gardinski)
load up 8 different 'effects' on the pedal board
and use the expression pedals to wahwah amongst them
i am looking to load up the switches for shoegaze stomp pedals onto the nektar pacer
and then use ghammy RE for expression
(there was another thread that can use expression pedals: the waubaby)
if anyone has any suggestions / advice i would be very happy to hear from you
thanks for your help,
j

I did something similar to my bloody valentine last year:
It’s short. Basically, you want a good guitar instrument if you don’t play guitar. I used SHREDDAGE by impact sound works. Capturing that sound though, that’s a matter of taste and complex effect chains. The main guy in mbv explained it as always bending and detuning but ending up in key at the end of the phrase.

hello,
thanks for the advice and your ideas
i do plan on playing real guitar
i am not aspiring to joe satriani level of licks
the shoegaze won't be the predominant sound in the mix
the concept of shoegaze is so coolcool
i need to learn how to program a foot controller
i need to learn how to create guitar combis
(just stick to the kuassa stuff would be smarter)
the bending and detuning would be a good skill to learn
cheers and mahalos,

Nice man! Were these all Reason stock effects, or did you use some VST?neoverse wrote: ↑23 Jun 2021I did something similar to my bloody valentine last year:

Thanks man! It was actually made it Logic before vst’s came to reason. That being said, it’s nothing you couldn’t do in reason. SHREDDAGE guitar library in kontakt, guitar rig 5 using rammsfire and I think a chorus on the 2nd and third guitar. The trick was bending one note on the main riff and having the lower note stay at a constant pitch.EnochLight wrote: ↑24 Jun 2021Nice man! hello,
i'm still researching on creating shoegaze sounds
(newb question) is there a good audio to midi RE?
i prefer RE before getting a vst
i just read that R9 has a right click option to 'bounce audio to midi'
and then that 'electrum' vst from united plugins was just presented in the vst thread
however, i think i'd rather stick with the kuassa RE and patches
cheers,
j

hello,
i'm trying to retrace my steps of how i got here
part of it started with watching the last episodes of conan comedian
then watched some cooking videos
then found this, and thought about it
the way people speak about music / chords is amazing
read the comments section
then i found this
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Viennese_School
which led to this
and if i am correct, this fl studio was posted a year earlier than the above guitar video
its like how garageband had a sample in it that rhianna struck diamond with for 'umbrella' (a drum loop)
one of the earlier comments stated that '1 of each chord' was used in each song (don't know)
however, it would be nice to shoegaze the !@$$#!! out of this with the kuassa RE

Hahaha! Yeah, I say go for it! Also, Rick Beato rules. I've subscribed to his channel for a while, and spent a lot of time watching his content during the COVID shutdown last year. Just an all around cool guy who loves deconstructing some of the greatest pop songs ever written in the past 50-60 years.

hello,
did some more deepdiving into pedals
and we may need enochlight to do some soldering of resistors and circuit boards
it's a bunch of videos showing guitar controllers
and a lot of ed sheeran
i have a lot of his music
and now being able to see these pedalvideos about how he loops / records is very interesting
(to know when the changes come in the song to see which buttons he presses on the controller)
the build it yourself video is superultracoolcool
maybe ron swanson can build some
and the mini martin guitar sound is very pure (unless it's effected through live)
i've heard that's the daw sheeran uses
would be fun to create this in reason with all the Kuassa RE and guitar/sitar tones
the comments section of each video is very enlightening, too
a lot of tidbits in the details and links for another rabbit hole
this is sonnit who built his own controller and software
here is the website where the software / controller (expensive) is available
in the uk
http://www.sonnit.co.uk/gallery.html
this is where we need to solder a bunch of stuff together and have a spare laptop
it uses the arduino circuit board (which was talked about earlier in the thread (thanks))
and a bunch of !@$^%$#@!! woodworking equipment
this is the sonnit software demo
which is where i think i can just use reason with all the Kuassa RE
this is sonnit with a verywellbuilt controller
i think they are 600britishpounds to buy
the audio interface goes inside the pedal controller
i think i'm still going for the nekatar controller and expression pedals
the next 4 videos are showing how sheeran's pedal works
(the person who did these videos is very cool (only like 8 videos on the website))
the first one was confusing
the 2nd one was better understanding
the 3rd one threw me for some sloops
the 4th one i could almost predict which buttons / lights would go on
the overdubbing: yeahyeahyeahyeahyeah
i am really liking this shoegazeshitstuff
again, using reason and different guitar tones / cabinets
shoegaze pinkfloyd with the mybloodyvalentine and the cure and depechemode maybe some moodyblues
and then this one showed up
cheers and eat well,
j
and to shoegaze piano
music starts at like 2 minutes
cheers and eat well
j
found the original
which is better?
cheers,

this pedal board has room for 3 expression pedals (very cool)
but that is expensive
i am now torn between this boss effect pedal the expensive one

Ochenk was an awesome RE dev and an all-around nice guy. Shitty he left and disappeared.

Was that OchenK himself doing Such Great Heights on Repeat? Love that song. Do you know what controller that was? I think I remember that someone had manufactured a controller specifically for use with an RE but I can’t remember which one it was. No he couldn't. Don’t get me wrong - he was a brilliant musician and we lost him too soon, but what he was doing was about as shoegaze as Depeche Mode is considered Norwegian death metal.

This Mortal Coil covered Tim Buckley’s Song to the Siren so with the Cocteau Twins link at a real stretch you could maybe say dreampop, almost shoegaze…maybe.EnochLight wrote: ↑17 Jul 2021No he could t. That song was one of the songs played at my wedding - absolutely gorgeous cover.
That said, a cover of a Tim Buckley song does not make Tim Buckley dreampop/almost shoegaze. Johnny Cash covered Depeche Mode's "Personal Jesus" and Nine Inch Nails' "Hurt". That doesn't make Depeche Mode or NiN a country act!
I'll concede that Jeff B's guitar pedals/effects were truly awesome. Just not even remotely shoegaze.

I guess that when he was looking down at his pedals he was also seeing his shoes (unless he was playing barefoot. Fckng hippy.)EnochLight wrote: ↑17 Jul 2021That song was one of the songs played at my wedding - absolutely gorgeous cover.

hello,
yeah, i would like to see jeff buckley's guitar pedal set up
that's what i was really commenting on
and the other videos are to remind myself of shoegazing vocals
i'm still new to shoegaze vocabulary and semantics
i'm also interested to see what MrFigg does with the new pacer
(would be cool if he still had the sitar)
would be neat to make a 'pacer pedal board' patches thread with Kuassa and R11 suite RE
i am close to ordering the pacer pedalboard and 2 pedals
cheers and eat well,
j
