Yeah I saw that. He justified my use of subscription as I am spending part of my income as a developer on it.

Well, he forgot to mention many companies, which aren't offering subscription and still don't have (full) M1 support ?!?

I've had a few software subscriptions. I've cancelled all of them. I've even paid for lifetime licenses on Roland virtual instruments rather then continue to pay for subscriptions.

I normally manage to watch the channel within minutes of a release but today I was busy playing with Algorithm

However as it's been posted here I'm happy to comment.

I rent my washing machine and I rent my tumble dryer and for good reason, they work hard in my house there's generally not a day that goes by when there not working and when they go wrong I call the company and someone generally turns up within a reasonable time and fixes or replaces it, to me it makes sense it's a reasonable price and the "service" is perfect.

software on the other hand is something I use when I have the time and sometimes that can be weeks in-between session, the support isn't even close to the same and sometimes the response is not going to solve anything so why would I throw money at the "service" when the server isn't the same?

Software as a service is nothing more than a con, thankfully I have a choice with Reason and as I own my current license I can continue to use my software as I see fit, if I don't want to upgrade I don't have to I can stop spending money and continue without any negatives I can hold onto that money and spend it when I see a benefit.

I'm cool with the option and for some subscription is the right option and the more choices people have the better.

normally I can’t stand this guy, but yeah, he does make some good points here. he’s sort of cherry picking, because I know of at least one very large DAW that doesn’t have a subscription option (I don’t think), that still has yet to roll out M1 support. but that minor gripe aside, it’s a really important point that if you’re paying them a constant stream of cash, they ought to at the very least be able to keep things current.

What's interesting is that none of the companies that offer subscription have developed support for it yet. Supposedly they have more resources, yet they don't actually have anything to show for it. Weird innit? 🤔
