Check out the dog on acid forums. Drum and bass focused but there are threads there extensively discussing hardware samplers as well as one for just EMU samplers as well. Stacks of information there.

So, I am now the proud owner of a Roland SP-808. Anyone have one? The ZIP disk was fucked so I ordered another one from ebay, should be getting it in a week or so.

Nice addition to my Roland W30 and DJ70MK2 :)
My first sampler was a SP-808. I loved it so much I bought a second one, lol! I have a red/pink one and the black one also. I still use them to this day. Especially for live VOX effects and Dbeam craziness recording into Reason.

Awesome! A guy I know is working on engineering an SD card interface for it. So far, the only one that will work in the SP808 is the blue one from the Akai S3000XL. I hope he gets it done at some point, that would be great.

Volca Sample
Elektron Model:Samples
Roland TR6S
Korg Electribe Sampler

There will be a sample-centred Novation Circuit released later this year but it might be a bit over your budget.

The volca and model samples are only sample players and only mono samples. Not sure about the tr6s. The Electribe is a stereo sampler as is the dirt cheap Akai mpx16.

I've had the electribe and the mpx16 and sold both. In the end I found them both too limited and saved for an Akai mpc one. You can get one 2nd hand for £500. I can't see me ever needing anything else from a sampler and it also serves as a great hardware brain when connected to a usb hub. Sequencing over USB midi is a doddle.

But from those listed the Electribe (Red) will do the most and for around £200 second hand.

True and it just had an excellent 1.30 firmware update which makes it more useful as a hardware brain and brings in features that align it with the Digitone.

Still on mono sampling and playback though which is a deal breaker for me as I can't play stereo stems. The stereo in is a great addition though.
