Some put the blame on the incompetent management, namely Kathleen Kennedy and Rian Johnson.

I believe Johnson was ordered to kill off Luke Skywalker, he's a director who was hired by Lucasfilm, not management.

It's complicated to me who's a producer and who's a director, and who hired whom, so yeah, I call them all "the management".

I grew up reading her name associated with my favorite movies in the 80's. I never thought she was a Sith Lord all along. I guess people change.

Lucasfilm hired Johnson for the project. It was his vision to subvert expectations.
Management was foolish not to have any plans at all for the whole trilogy.
Star Wars was about printing money, not real drama.

I liked his movie Looper, even with a meh ending.

Utter shite all of them. What they did to Luke was a travesty but as long as those woke utopia boxes are ticked that’s all that matters.

Rogue One was the only modern Star Wars movie that was any good.

It's sad the way they ruined the Star Wars franchise. They should have just left the original trilogy alone, instead of whoring it out the way they did. Return of the Jedi was kind of a jump the shark sort of movie, so they were already headed in a bad direction way back then. Return/Jedi just didn't have anything for the rest of the cast to do. While Luke was facing off with Vader/Emperor, they were playing in the woods with a bunch of teddy bears, throwing rocks and sticks at storm troopers and armored walkers. The ewoks were the precursor to Jar Jar Binks and the future direction of the franchise.

Jedi has some great moments, and it was my favorite as a kid, but as an adult it has clearly aged the worst. Cinematic Star Wars has been on a mostly downhill trajectory ever since. We had plenty of other early warning signs even before the prequels when Lucas started re-releasing tweaked “special edition” versions of the OT with stupid scenes like Greedo shooting first, Han stepping on Jabba’s tail, clunky shoehorned CGI and new cringey music sequences to ‘punch up’ the comic relief.

This new trilogy debacle was mismanagement from the top down and it didn't help that TFA was a creatively bankrupt, mediocre retread of A New Hope to begin with; a rotten foundation from the start. Disney/LucasFilm clearly wanted to cash in on the Star Wars IP as quickly as possible instead of taking the time to properly plan out a thoughtful story arc, so they decided to wing it. I don’t blame Rian Johnson at all. He was invited to make Episode 8 based on the stupid mystery box baton JarJar Abrams gave him, it was greenlit by LucasFilm and he made the Star Wars movie he personally wanted to see based on the Ep7 screenplay he was given. TFA wasn't even released in theaters yet when he wrote TLJ. Preproduction for large projects like these are planned out way ahead of time and made in parallel.

Luke was the only character in this entire trilogy to have a consistent, meaningful, heartfelt character arc and also the only time I even "felt" something other than visual effects fatigue. He's the priest who lost his faith, then regains it again to make the ultimate sacrifice in the truest, most Jedi way possible. Nah, the character they really screwed over was Han Solo.

Let's not talk about Han. I'm still very salty about that. What an absolute waste of a character.

Let's talk about Rey. You can sit on a barren rock starving and dying of thirst for 20 odd years then pick up a lightsaber and you're a Jedi master. What a load of old tosh.
Love how they totally marginalised Finn in the later movies. Arrgghhh. It genuinely makes me angry how they fucked over Star Wars.

Looper is fine. Maybe Starwars is that criminal syndicate that Johnson suffered from in his childhood and now he is the Rainmaker who decided to close the loops on all of them?

The Rainmaker would not spend a nanosecond wasting his time on twtr, like Johnson :D

The real Rainmaker is Elon Musk. His invention, the Hyperloop, is in fact a stealth cyclotron. When 88000 Tesla cars are spinning at 88mph inside the Hyperloop, their batteries become entangled with the opposite car on the circle. When all of the pair of cars are linked, crossing their energy at the center point, a time-wormhole is created.
Elon has already made a list of all the people he will send back. And no, Reason Studios users are not on the list

I've heard that Kathleen Kennedy is working on Indiana Jones 5 and Lucas and Spielberg are not involved.

Totally agree. They ruined it. George Lucas is pretty overrated, if you ask me. And from what I've seen, he pretty much stole a lot of the ideas he used to make the first trilogy. I still love them, though. They are classics and a nostalgic part of my childhood.

I really wish he would have started closing loops before Phantom Menace went into production.

I'd much rather watch Looper than any of the Star Wars movies after RotJedi.

Who would have thought that a bunch of CV nerds would be Star Wars fans!? ha ha ha
Apparently Han used this on his infamous Kessel run (fewer than 12, to be precise)

It is impossible to describe how I felt when I saw a lightsaber, and how its sound matched it so perfectly back then.

Star Wars is based on multiple myths, with universal core ideas, shared across the world and cultures. What Joseph Campbell called "The Hero's Journey". A timeless tale. The look was heavily inspired by old small budget sci-fi movies. I remember thinking the warp transition fx were so "old school". Using real instruments. Also a timeless signature for the classical music score. Most sci-fi movies who used synth music and Sony Trinitron TVs (as spaceship monitors) look so dated now. Nothing SW fans know already
Finn was a missed opportunity as a great character development across the Disney's trilogy. He was killed by Ego, and writers who grew up typing 140 characters or less on twtr. The same for Rey.

JJ is telling us why now. No plans. Bizarre. I don't get it.
