Things that make you wonder what they were thinking
Why doesn't the sequencer pop up in the center of the screen or to the far right when click on the right button on the transport bar? This may be a small nuisance but it makes me wonder what the developers were thinking? Do I have some option checked that shouldn't?

I'm not sure I understand your question.
Have you tried hitting F7? It will open the Sequencer in full screen mode.

They were thinking that you're about to play the song from there, since you're moving the playhead to the right locator. Looks like you just needed to bring the right locator position into the view, making use of the Follow Song feature (which could be off by the way). If you only need to move the view to the the locator positions, they are clearly visible on the song navigator.

I kind of agree , it's ugly. But I actually find the tools in there to be really useful and easy to use in a way the equivalent tools in Cubase are not.
I agree, there shoud be a option "Keep Clip / Selection centered in screen" or just ignore the play position. Or the most useful solution: "keep last view".
Most of the times I'm recentering the view manually, because I'm commited to finishing that section / bar, and THEN move on.
Maybe the developers were just optimistic "hey, if you played this to the end, must be good, just move on, let me recenter this for you!"

If you're talking about popping out the sequencer to its own window, that pop out window's position is saved on a per song file basis. So if there's a position you always want that window to be positioned in when detached; you just need to set up a Reason song with all the windows placed how you like them (both in detached and attached forms) and then make that your default song template so those settings are always used.
Think what the OP means is that you move the play head to the end of the loop and the whole loops is now clear off the left side of the screen rather than the end loop point and playhead right on the right of the screen so you can see the loop. Which is daft, it's true. There's no reason why you'd want to go to the end of the loop and not be able to see any of it, by default.

But how else could it be done?
There are too many parameters for a load of drop-down options. It works per clip, so you need to select a clip, and by doing so all the clip parameters come up automatically on the not-very-well-thought out bar between the seq and rack. It would be a jumbled mess if you tried to get all the F8 parameters up there automatically. But then where else could it go?
I think you'd always end up with a window, just a question as to whether it floats or is attached like the finder.
I'd be more annoyed if all the F8 prameters popped up to eat screen space every time you selectd a clip, because while the F8 stuff is very handy I don't use it so often that I always need it there.

For what it's worth, my WTF feature is the way you can't zoom out to see large structures in the Sequencer. No idea why anyone would build a sequencer like that.

it could be done any number of ways, but Reason already has an elegant way of handling edits to selected objects, in the little editor bar above the sequencer where you can make tweaks to stuff appropriate to the type of selection (formant/pitch/fades for audio, clip length, etc.). it could be a simple matter of adding those F8 options to the right kinds of selection types. if the options are too long for a single row, stack another row. and if people need to reclaim some of their screen real estate, they could hit F8, and hide the additional options/row.plaamook wrote: ↑27 Apr 2021But how else could it be done?

There is a perfect Reason for that, when you want to escape the loop being played and continue from the position following it, that's what it does. Since the loop is left, there is no need to see it, and it's natural in this case to have in view the fragment to be played just right to the loop.plaamook wrote: ↑27 Apr 2021Think what the OP means is that you move the play head to the end of the loop and the whole loops is now clear off the left side of the screen rather than the end loop point and playhead right on the right of the screen so you can see the loop. True. But often I want to get to the end of a loop and look back as well. Which is why centre makes everyone happy.orthodox wrote: ↑27 Apr 2021There is a perfect Reason for that, when you want to escape the loop being played and continue from the position following it, that's what it does. Why? It's moving out of sight anyway and there's a whole life ahead. You can look back at it later when you take a pause.plaamook wrote: ↑27 Apr 2021True. But often I want to get to the end of a loop and look back as well. Which is why centre makes everyone happy.orthodox wrote: ↑27 Apr 2021

My song's do't tend to be so epic that they contain the whole of my future life within them, but ok.

I mean, when it's playing, the attention is rather on the things to be played, rarely on what is left behind, there's little time for that.
I don't actually play anything very often. I sculpt things.
Anyway, I think we've laboured this point enough, eh?

Precisely AND thanks for explaining it better than I was able to.plaamook wrote: ↑27 Apr 2021Think what the OP means is that you move the play head to the end of the loop and the whole loops is now clear off the left side of the screen rather than the end loop point and playhead right on the right of the screen so you can see the loop. 2 things that baffle me are why you have to keep pressing stop to get to the beginning of the track to play, wouldn't rewind make more sense? and when they added slicing notes in Reason 9 and didn't find it obvious to add joining notes too?
Oh also those arrows cluttering up that midi editor on the notes and on small notes get in the way to move notes. Like someone suggested on here a couple of years ago, it'd make more sense to have those arrows appear at the beginning or the end of the notes when the cursor got a certain pixel length from either end and them be vacant till then.
