New tech puts product placement in classic movies
I think it was in some book by Sergei Lukyanenko (who came up with Matrix some 10 years before the Wachovskis, in his books it was called "the Deep") where the main protagonist had a premium plan (because he was a police officer), so he had his ads broadcast to him in his dreams, as opposed to in reality, like everyone else had them.
It could.

Brilliant lol. Just as long as it's something that the set designer/dresser has some say in (as far as what can be changed), or they at least know what could be changed later... That's more the angle I find as a concern. I imagine designing sound/music for a film and then someone coming in and changing something to a product jingle.
As a viewer, as long as it doesn't look fake, is relevant to the time period and location, and doesn't take the audience out of the element, I don't see an issue. I then might not even notice. It actually might make it fun rewatching some favorites with friends and seeing if you can spot the things that are different.

It is not a one time deal. Non stop rotation of ads on streaming platforms.

Pretty sad if they go back and stick ads/product placements in old stuff, especially since that material has already been paid for and profited off.
New films/TV shows then sure why not, it's the creators and producers choice to do that.

Yeah I think that's what makes it cool lol. Different surprises each time
The tech will eventually apply to actors too.

Lol funny you mention that now that they are putting deceased actors into films.
And I guess much of making changes isn't too new...just look at what George Lucas did with his remasters...
Purchasing films and hard copies might become more popular again when people want to get their hands on films before potential changes.

Darth Billie in Star Wars 19.

heeey good thinking... Now there's some merit to the idea. Hard copies without ads. But didn't they already try that in a way with watermarked audio and 'home viewing only video'? Piracy is still alive and well. I can tell.
"Billie's voice belongs to the dark side of the Force, and in future ads."" (according to an anonymous Sith)
