Thanks for posting this, a great track and interesting to get a peek at how it was done. Shame that the drums were bounced down already. Care to share what was used to create the drum track?
Sure! Ok the drum track is actually a combination of single-drums, loops and effects. I will give you the names but cannot write all details :
KICK: Vengeance Essential House 3 - VEH3 028 and some hi-hats from the same library on the same Redrum with the kick playing offbeat of course. For the kicks there is a secret from many years and this is called COMP-01. I have never heard any other compressor or processor making the kicks sound so good and in your face.
Settings I used for that one is Ratio: 3:1, Threshold: 0, Attack: 84, Release: 12
Usually on kicks I set up a ratio between 2:1 to 4:1, the threshold in most cases 0, very long attack and very short release. Sometimes you may need to EQ the kick because the compressor may sometimes change the body of the kick so you may need to eq a bit and this must be done before the compressor not after and only if needed.
Claps (starts at 0:00): Vengeance Future House - 128BPM Funkalicious Kit 7
Claps 2 (starts at 00:45 ): Vengeance Future House 3 - VFH3 128BPM Emote Kit 8 (Transposed Up 1 semitone)
Main Hi-Hats(starts at 00:30): Vengeance Future House 3 - 128BPM Neo Pop Kit 7 (Transposed the whole loop Up and Down 1 semitone every 2 bars)
Hi-Hats (starts at 00:52): 2nd Re-Drum Various
FX1(drops in various parts): VEH3 FX 124, NBT1 Impact 09 (Original & Reversed)
FX2(starts at 0:00): Simple white noise exported from Thor.
FX3 Drumbreak build-up (starts at 1:53): It is a self-made exported buildup that I dont remember how I did it because Its a combination I exported from another work I did.
FX4 (starts at 02:07): It's FX3 also repeating some pieces of it after 04:24 every bar with short-cuts.
Actually the processing on the drums is fairly simple because I mainly used loops in combination with single drum hits. It's one of the tracks that I have actually not even compressed any loop or group of drumloops, only the kick is processed as I mentioned above. They are all merged in the master with the rest of the tracks and the sound result is mostly because it's a good combination of loops and sounds. That's the key for having good sound overall in a track. For me the no1 key to have a good sound in your music is not the mix or the mastering so much but what sounds you blend together (which yeah actually that's mixing as well ofc).
