Are y'all excited for midi 2.0? Instead of 127 steps, we'll have over 4 million! And it's 2-way. It'll be easier to make microtonal music, timing will be more accurate, it can read all of your hardware synthesizer's parameters and presets and display them onscreen, you can pitch bend each note individually instead of having to bend the whole synth, ect... I'm so excited!!! This is honestly such a huge moment in music history. I'm kind of surprised more people aren't talking about it. This video is super cheesy (honestly kind of in a great way though), but it gives a rundown of some of the things we'll be able to do when it comes out:

Do you know a product on the market using 2.0? Hardware or software.

Midi 2.0 is technically out on paper, but the tech isn't super integrated yet. As far as I can see The Roland A-88MKII is the only fully midi 2.0 compatible controller on the market. If anybody knows of any others, let me know though! The midi association does say that it will be possible to update some midi 1.0 devices to midi 2.0 though, which is very exciting!

I was excited when I heard about this, last year? Two years ago? Can't remember but haven't heard a peep about it since

I'll wait for real moves before getting too excited.

Here’s supposedly the first DAW that supports MIDI 2.0. Not sure what all it implements. More info here: https://cdm.link/2021/03/midi-2-0-in-a- ... sbH-sxPNCA

Full MIDI 2.0 support with an improved sequencer would be a worthy feature for Reason 12.

MIDI 2.0 is taking so long to get to market they are in danger of missing the boat. More and more people are working mostly "in the box" and that is only going to continue to grow so I'm not convinced it will ever reach critical mass. It might be another Betamax but I'm happy for them to try!

Lol. Reason doesn't even have MIDI tracks. It has the worst midi implementation I have come across. The chances they will jump out ahead of the curve on this are pretty slim imo.

Yes and thus implementing the new standard properly with all of its features would be a major feature addition instead of further extending the existing, but severely lacking MIDI implementation with MPE or microtuning etc.

This actually puts Reason in a good place to start from, because its MIDI implementation is so basic. There’s a lot less baggage and code to rewrite than in other DAWs.

I'm guessing Reason's MIDI situation is a result of the original intention of being a ReWire device, where MIDI would be handled by Cubase so Reason didn't need MIDI tracks or to do anything beyond what the Advanced Midi device can do. Now with RRP , I suspect they will let the other DAW manufacturers worry about MIDI 2.0.

Here's a video, posted very recently, from the MIDI Association's COO, which explains it all pretty clearly, with much basic info about compatibility with MIDI 1, cables, hardware, etc., PLUS including the fact that what's still yet to happen is the development of "class-compliant" drivers for MIDI 2 from all the major OS developers, like Apple, Microsoft, etc., all of whom are active members of the Association and have said they'll do it, or something like that, but no predictions or promises about when for any of that. This info starts around 22 minutes in.
