Isn't it just a keyboard with shortcuts printed onto it?

I had one, it broke. If you know the shortcuts there's no advantage. Crappy chiclet keys were crap for typing on.

It's also a good opportunity to let people know what you think of these overpriced pieces of tat. Has anyone actually had a positive experience with editorkeys? £99!!! You're having a laugh!

Sorry, I'll quote myself from another post this once:

any mechanical keyboard beats any non-mechanical keyboard. Even the lowest quality cheapest chinese Cherry-mx knockoff is better than a non-mechanical keyboard. There are different types of switches to meet any demand. Best go with the original cherries of course, but they are pricier.

https://www.cherrymx.de/en/mx-original/mx-red.html

I use the basic Hator knockoff with blue switches (feels like an old typewriter, loud and clicky), but you can have it with red also and it will be a bit quieter, with less travel time. Perfect performance 2 years straight, $60 + delivery, no ghosting issues. Can customize colours and lighting strength to each key individually, if you fancy, have it very dim, black and white or no lighting/colour at all.

https://hator.gg/keyboards/rockfall

Not all knockoffs are equally good, but this one I can vouch for.

But if you're fine with paying 100 quid for a membrane keyboard... after it dies, I would strongly recommend going for a carrier with original Cherry-mx switches, it will last you a good 5 years if not a decade and it's a very fun and pleasant tactile experience.

$130

never mind it being a "gaming" keyboard. It's about the switches and it just so happens that the red switches are optimal for gaming. But maybe blue or brown switches is what you want - look it up. The manufacturer of the keyboard itself is almost irrelevant, as long as it has a metal base and the original cherry switches.

In fact, if you have a metal-base old keyboard, you can just tear everything out and install new switches and caps yourself, it's just too much hassle.

Even for a plastic base, that's a disgusting steal... Sounds almost too good to be true. The switches themselves cost more than that. Careful, man! :DD

use whatever makes you happy. I love a good mechanical keyboard, and could never get behind using stickers, but membrane keyboards are plenty fine, and those Editors Keys options are very nice looking (though I have no experience with them).

personally, I’d focus on learning shortcuts by heart/muscle memory, and save some money for other stuff, but if it makes you more productive, that’s really all that matters.

Its back lit so you can use it in the dark each key is lit specifically to let you read witch function it is that you want to press its not a tacky attempt every key is legible in the dark its allso colour coded and grouped to tell you witch section of reason is in focus ,work of genius.

Is a gaming keyboard suitable for creating such bindings? In fact, there is also a standard set of keys and there are also additional ones that facilitate the gameplay. I have never used a gaming keyboard before, but then my keyboard broke and I looked after myself the Redragon Wired Gaming Keyboard. In the review, there was a cool proposal for buying a keyboard with a gaming mouse right away. For 40 bucks, it's generally a cool buy.

I really wouldn't spend any money on a "special" keyboard - the sticker are cheaper but again I personally don't think they are worth using just take the extra time learning the shortcuts and using them regularly and you will get quicker with them.

I tried using stickers on the keyboard - they fly off very quickly. Maybe I came across poor quality?

Plot twist. A Stream deck maybe a worthy consideration. You can program your choice of shortcuts. https://www.elgato.com/en/stream-deck

To be fair I wouldn't use stickers or a dedicated keyboard but I understand some people might like to, I posted the stickers as an alternative to a very expensive keyboard.

Maybe the better solution would be to print a nice A3 size copy and pin it above your main display ;)

The idea of placing a poster is not bad. Then there is no need to buy any ridiculous stickers or any expensive specialized keyboards.
