converter is really only needed for those working between the VST and RE, correct?
Actually I'm still in the habit of converting purchased sound banks into individual repatches if they don't get provided, however since the updated browser in the VST version has made it a lot easier to patch surf I'm not sure I will continue with doing that!

Well, unless RS goes belly up and you can't authenticate Reason and REs anymore... ;)

Nice

So that one doesn't list ReSpire and doesn't say it includes the ReSpire patches, so does that mean it's not compatible and won't convert?

It went nice with this one

As for conversion I would have to check.

Got this as well

Requirements: Spire v1.1.13 + and ReSpire 1.0.5 + required

Which would suggest compatibility between the two.

True, but the same can be said about any VST dev - if they go belly up and disappear, all it takes is one OS update or DAW update later and suddenly your VST is... well...

True. But how many plugins does one own per company? Most likely (maybe other than Arturia or Native Instruments) we’d be more concerned with a RS demise as they manage all REs...

Exactly

That's why I try buy from developers that have been around for awhile, and have always preferred licensing files than some convoluted authorisation service. Reason is my only exception/concern!

True. That said, any company is just as likely to stick around or disappear, and us consumers of course pay the price. The amount of risk one takes is dependant on the products they choose to stock their computers with and the value they place upon them.

One could argue that VST indie-devs are far more risky ventures and may or may not have staying power to survive over the long term. Let's put it this way: Reveal Sound has 1 product, and makes its revenue by selling preset packs after it sells 1 Spire license (that gives users free upgrades for life, so far). That business model will require them to keep selling more and more Spire licenses to expand and remain liquid, but with such a crowded market, how realistic is that?

Meanwhile, RS not only sells RE's (which - yes - obviously can only be used in their DAW and RRP), but also sells a free-standing DAW that we've found has a pretty passionate customer base  as well as a rack of plugins as a VST/AU/AAX that can be used in almost any DAW, along with any RE's bought. This arguably has more "value", ensuring that no matter what happens - a buyer may be lurking in the woods to snatch them up and keep those servers rolling. Kind of like a venture capital group's poster child. :puf_bigsmile:

Ok so I just emailed support and I'm still trying to get my head round this but.........

You can install the latest Spire version, run it in Demo mode and use the export function to convert the soundbanks from the new format into repatch files:

Which means you can use the converter tool on line for 1.1.17 sound packs or the VST in demo mode for anything, now I haven't tested this but I will accept what Support said!

Hmmm. So it will spit out patches, but if the RE is lacking features, the patch will just be different?

I'm still interested to know if ReSpire patches are included with every pack in which they are compatible (like the one I shared a screenshot of). I wish they had a way to browse by ReSpire compatible.

Yeah features really isn't clear. Can you name anything different?

As for the packs not every pack producer seems to include repatches, but Reveal have since release and have now incorporated the conversion into the vst which is excellent as a patch producer should simply be able to export a repatch zip.

I'm not familiar with the VST version. I just know people here have claimed that there is no longer parity

Ok so looking at it quickly, I only see fixes and preset browser related stuff since the time of the update of the RE...

So perhaps all features are there?

Sorry for that massive amount of information but,
What I see is ReSpire latest 1.0.7 & Spire Synthesizer update to v1.1.15 (2019.03.28 12:12) should be the same, and the rest looks like updates to the vst version? Correct me if I'm wrong!

Ok so looking at it quickly, I only see fixes and preset browser related stuff since the time of the update of the RE...

So perhaps all features are there?
So that looks like we are in agreement!
Yeah I just wonder why others have said the patch conversion won't work... Maybe there's something I'm overlooking?

Possibly but rather than looking like ReSpire has been abandoned they have actually made it a whole lot easy for patch producers to export ReSpire repatch archives from within their latest version!

The only extras I see are drag n drop assignments and modwheel saving. The rest all look like enhancements to gui or bug fixes within other daws which wouldn't be needed with Reason!

So I'm happy to say the features that count are all in 1.0.7 ReSpire & moving forward it should be easier for pack producers to think about ReSpire in their releases.....

You happy with that joey?

* Added option "Don't create "init" preset on disk"

Agreed?

I only own the RE and haven't used the VST or own any packs, but yes it looks good from what I'm reading
