I don't do VSTs, so I was only interested in this as a budget very high quality synth in the rack.

Any reason not to get it for an RE-only setup?

I'd rather get Antidote on sale.

Wasn't this always EUR189?

Why does it say EUR219 now??

Now that I'd be saving EUR146 I definitely have to get it!!!

I've demoed them both and think Respire sounds better for that Virus TI sound that both seem to be aiming for.

At £64, it's pretty incredible value; even if development on it has been abandoned.

If that's your stance then it sounds like you have very little choice, I have both the RE & the VST and I'm convinced that the VST has much better performance and is way easier to use compared to the RE but if you're only interested in RE's I say get it.

Just don't expect any updates :exclamation:
And don't be surprised if it disappears from the shop like the PX7 :exclamation:

Most peculiar...

GBP189 = EUR219, but it was always the same number, just different currency. And Spire - even VST - was never over 200 EUR.

Yeah at least the reported bugs have been fixed. If a plugin in any format is no longer updated, the RE format seems safest. Such as if I see Blamsoft's Zero hasn't been updated since 2017 or Synapse's Deep Reverb hasn't been updated since 2012, I'm much less concerned about that than seeing a VST that seems it is no longer being updated. Of course in this case, the VST version still receives updates, but if you are happy with the RE, nothing wrong with that.

Yeah I hated having to buy in euros not only did the price always seem high but my bank would always change for non standard currency and the exchange rate was always way off, I was so pleased when the shop started selling in GBP.

It's due to the "currency adjustments" they made in the Reason shop last summer, they raised all the EUR prices while keeping the USD prices as they were.
So 189 USD now corresponds to 219 EUR in the shop.
(The EUR prices are probably higher due to EU VAT)

That's also why the "standard price" for RS synths now is 109 EUR instead of 99 EUR. (They're still 99 USD)

Oh, wow :o

I guess it's really time to stop buying stuff from RS, then :(

Previously you'd pay EUR189 (GBP163) + some bank fees.
I doubt the fees would accrue to GBP189 that you'd have to pay now.

I wasn't making any wishes. The extra charge was if I remember correctly £1 for the transaction and then an additional 1% the total amount due.

My issue with it all was the fact we at the time was a member state who could use the currency but the banks called it non standard currency and then charged for it. It never made sense.

And EUR156.

Yeah, that's f**ked up :x

I wonder what's the geographical make up of Reason's users?
Perhaps majority is in US, so they made $ the "base" currency and it was convenient other currencies would be more?

Anyway getting back on topic, Reveal also have an online patch converter :- https://reveal-sound.com/sounds-convert.html

And generally included individual repatch files in packs they make

As I pointed out earlier, this no longer works completely for the latest patches being sold by Reveal Sound. Parity between the VST and RE ended some time ago. :( It's cool they did include some that still work with ReSpire in the one pictured, though.

ReSpire sounds great. I picked it up when upgrading my Synthesis Rig a while back, and I absolutely do not regret it one bit. I've never had any major issues with it but, from what other people have said, I'd say it certainly looks like one to try before you buy.

That said - yeah, I see no real reason to recommend ReSpire over Spire VST unless you really, REALLY don't want to spend the extra amount, or if you're dead set on going Rack Extension-only.

That's a great point. For the most part, ReSpire works as expected in Reason and will continue to - forever - regardless of what happens to Reveal Sound or Spire VST. I sometimes forget how solid RE's are in Reason from that perspective!

Unfortunately it doesn't look like they include a way to browse by ReSpire (and "respire" and "reason" in the search yield 0 results).

However, they do list compatibility within each pack. And it sounds like ReSpire patches are included in those packs and the converter is really only needed for those working between the VST and RE, correct?

Yeah, for instance - if I create a patch in the VST that utilizes the new features that have been added over the years (that ReSpire doesn't have), I have issues getting them to translate. Many of the new preset packs that come out utilize these new features.

Gotcha. Yeah that's what I figured. So someone who is only interested in the RE, while it does limit their access to more, newer sound packs, it's not something they would need to use anyways because the sound packs compatible with ReSpire should have those .repatch presets included? If only there was a way to browse by compatibility... Or maybe there is and I missed it.

You are correct as pointed out here :- viewtopic.php?p=542899#p542899

But that still leaves a large amount that are convertible and I've only see a few new packs requiring the latest version of spire. They are pretty good at making sure they list the requirements including the spire version.

And as the OP made it quite clear they didn't want the VST version I would say given the only option is the RE version then go for it, it's cheap at the moment but is definitely not on par with the VST in ease of use or performance.

It might be handy if we could fine the last version number for patch conversion/respire compatibility.

See my last comment? Is the converter necessary for any packs compatible? Or is it only a utility that someone uses to convert their personal patches (from the VST to RE)? The pack I took a screenshot of and others seem to include the .repatch files if it's compatible.
