Hello
Does anyone know how to create effects such as reverb and delay in Reason so that they're only applied when the instrument's signal goes above a certain volume? I had thought that this was called a 'gated effect', but all of the YouTube tutorials on gated effects discuss the kind of shimmering gate that switches on and off rhythmically.
Does the kind of gating I've referred to above have a particular name? And does anyone know how to create this effect, or whether there are any online tutorials? Presumably it involves creating some kind of buffer between instrument and effect, whereby only the louder parts reach the effect.
Any help appreciated.

1) Ducking delay/reverb, where signal is fed to delay/reverb all the time, but the effect is made quieter when source signal is stronger? This is something that Reason's both The Echo (ducking in lower right) and RV7000 ("Gate" in Edit Mode) have and many other 3rd party effects, but can easily be built with sidechain compressor (even the one in Mixer channel) or envelope follower (like the one in Pulveriser).
2) ???, where signal is only sent to dealy/reverb when it exceeds certain threshold, which I'd build using a parallel channel with a noise gate (like Kuassa's Efektor Silencer, gate section of the Mixer) followed by the required insert effect.

Thanks for this. Definitely going with the second option. I'd never heard of the Kuassa Efektor (in case anyone else hasn't seen it: https://www.reasonstudios.com/shop/download/5654), so thanks for that. Is it then a case of doing something roughly like this?

I would do two tracks; one with the dry signal and one with the FXed so it would be easy to keep control of where and when things happen.
Definitely. Hence we're talking about doing it via parallel track. I've tried it out of curiosity yesterday and using a gate to control what part of the signal goes out to FX is pretty poor and sort of random. I always felt automation or some kind of LFO/envelope controlling a send (or some equivalent device) is a much better way to achieve this.

Thanks for replies. Apologies – I'd only just seen them.

As far as I understand what you want, rv-7000 can do this.
