how much stuff do you own?
I have 240 RE-extensions.... ( including some freebies I guess)
I'm a winner and a loser at the same time... but still proud of my collection!

A lot!
I've been using Reason since Dec 01 and when I was able to expand the Rack with REs I went a bit mad.... for a few years!
No major regrets but I was a bit blind to it and think I've learned from it

I own just slightly too much stuff but it's not too bad, just a couple of wrong turns getting to my happy place.
Reason 11 + a decent amount of RE.s
Cubase Pro 11, Halion 6
MPC software 2.9
Arturia V collection
Arturia FX collection + 3 modulation fx
Things I regret buying
VK2 re, Umph club drums, Voltage Modular, and if I'm honest Delta Midi Computer because despite it being great it was expensive and I rarely use it.

yeah feel free to say stuff you regret
i feel like 14 refills is too much and i did have more stuff before i sold it or gave stuff away im happier now
and ive uploaded all them refills to google
drive and even there too much stringwerk is all that was missing from my arsenal tbh reason 10/11 comes with so much

Most of the Reason Studios, Kuassa, Kilohearts, Selig, and Synapse REs, plus a lot of other ones. The RE-2A.
Over 2TB of virtual instrument libraries, mainly for Kontakt. Lots of Spitfire, 8Dio, Impact Soundworks, Orange Tree, and Embertone.
Komplete 12.
Seventh Heaven reverb.

i have with the refills i have is i think there all a bit samey , loads of pads ambience etc and you really only need one like that i feel
do you think you need all that spitfire stuff ? like you probably have more than one full orchestral plug in did you need more or just wantes because of the Gas , it grips us all i got stringwerk but then i had no strings but then i bought soundcells afterglow and then i though why ? ok it was only 9.99 but its not much differtnt to bitwords wavefront or luftrum refillsn
different ish but loads more pads
so now im
thinking like this
analog synth ( thor ) check
digital synth europa ( check
sampler ( grain nnxt ) check
drums ( redrum ) kong ( audio samples check)
eg reverb compressor (check)
string emsemble )stringwerk check
individual strings ( orkestor check )
video ( vidplay vst check )
so im gonna add stuff i may need like
bass etc rather than buy more of the same shit from
now on
GAS is a illness brothers and sisters lol

Any given virtual instrument has its own focuses and can only replicate a small part of the range of the real instrument they're trying to capture, so yeah, I'd say there is value in having more than one type of the same instrument. There are a few purchases I didn't research enough and would skip if I could do them over again, but even those were usually useful for a while until I had more options to replace them with. I would say I've gotten good use out of most of what I own.iamthor4 wrote: ↑27 Nov 2020the problemesselfortium wrote: ↑27 Nov 2020Most of the Reason Studios, Kuassa, Kilohearts, Selig, and Synapse REs, plus a lot of other ones. When I worked on the Heart of the Woods soundtrack a few years ago I had a far smaller selection at my disposal and managed to make it work, but it definitely put some limitations on things. Especially when you're under deadline pressure and have a lot to do, it's nice having more options to reach for if something isn't landing quite right.

I have 83 REs in total, 56 of those were free, 27 paid for.
I also have 48 VST, but only 2 of those were paid for, the rest were free - turns out I don't mind VST, as long as I don't have to pay for them!
When I say free, I mean legitimately free BTW...
This is after having removed countless others from Reason's view that I didn't like or that crashed (a lot) - so this is just the stuff I absolutely need

i have 29 refills, about 50 rack-extensions if I don't count the props. my most used ones are lectric panda.
i have a lot of vst - korg collection, reaktor, massive, massive x and stuff from native instruments. and i also have ableton live 10 + max for live. for plugins efx i have bought a lot of waves stuff. ...and then i have the hardware stuff, which is another story but i have been using reason since 2000 and i have been active for 20 years+ so it doesn't sound like a lot, since i have used a lot of these plugins over the years. when reason didn't have vst support, it was ableton live rewired. i am mostly using reason now for songwriting, but i also use live for live and when i am doing mastering work.

oh, good, you’re asking about software—that list contains quite a bit, but not too crazy. <then looks around at all this hardware with a mixture of wonder, pride, and shame >
My only two DAWs are Reason and WaveLab
I've got something like 250 REs and too many VSTs to count, probably over 300. Same with refills. It's a bit embarrassing but I've really reined in the GAS over the past couple of years
