On the week that Ableton Live 11 and Cubase 11 are announced, Ryan Harlin is leading the way back to Reason 1.0.
NICE!!!!
It's like that feeling you had as a kid when you had all of your toys and gadgets and your parents yank you by the collar and forced you to go on a camping trip. It felt terrible at first but after the trip was over, you appreciated the lessons learned.
Truthfully, most of the Reason devices are fluff and not necessary for making good music. You just have to work harder. Besides, most of the tricks that most of the recent devices have up their sleeve just make you sound like everybody else.
And we can all use a break from sidechain compression and wobbling. I hear that stuff and it's the first sign of an amateur hiding in his/her COVID basement.
This week you have to focus on songwriting and melody. The drums are still important but not the end all be all.
Best of luck during the contest!

Digging around looking for nostalgia is always going to bring back fond memories and maybe you end up stumbling across a gem or two

Wow that's sweet!! I wish they would put up a Reason 1.0 simulation in a web browser!Billy wrote: ↑11 Nov 2020I've had more fun today than all week so far

Listen, if I need your troll business, I'll definitely let you know. But let's give other members a chance to have their say and keep it positive. Sound good?BRIGGS wrote: ↑11 Nov 2020ok, mr. big boy pants.scotward57 wrote: ↑11 Nov 2020

User samples allowed?
I asked this question too, and if they are do we have to do it outside of Reason? Are we going to need a copy of Recycle so we can Rex them.......
So many things that have just slipped into Reason that V1 was missing and V11 have.
I guess you could over think it, but I've decided to find my V1 refill disk and bonus CD and stick with that, I think Ryan is going to make an official post with the rules but I'm guessing it's fairly obvious that the end is to have a V1 "style" rack.
Using chords & scales to create some nn19 samples is ok so long as you load into nn19 is fine "I'm guessing"
Using drumseq to build a nice groove then bouncing to Rex must be acceptable "I'm guessing"
Etc....

Using anything that wasn't in Reason 1.0 would be cheating. No players, just draw in the chords you need. Don't use the slice editing tools in Dr. Octo Rex either. Do the best you can in using Factory REX loops. Just copy loops to tracks and copy the resulting MIDI track to other tracks as a method for groove quantitizing. You can use user samples to load into NN-19, but don't resample Reason devices that weren't around at the time. The point of the activity is to gain appreciation for what Reason had to offer from the beginning.Billy wrote: ↑11 Nov 2020I asked this question too, and if they are do we have to do it outside of Reason? How would one know which of the sounds are from v1 and not from subsequent versions? Or the patches? Sounds super inconvenient.
You couldn't even play individual Dr rex slices? Lol I'm out.

Just pick REX loops that sound like they were from the 90s. If it wobbles or traps, then don't use it. Try to not let the inconvenience bother you.PhillipOrdonez wrote: ↑11 Nov 2020How would one know which of the sounds are from v1 and not from subsequent versions? Or the patches? I agree, the rules are too strict. Makes things not fun.PhillipOrdonez wrote: ↑11 Nov 2020How would one know which of the sounds are from v1 and not from subsequent versions? Or the patches? Sounds super inconvenient.

How about, just do a Subtractor/NN-19/Redrum project...and fx, players, etc. is fair game?

Wow. You guys are acting like Reason Studios is forcing you to produce music on a 4 track cassette recorder.BRIGGS wrote: ↑11 Nov 2020I agree, the rules are too strict. You know that is because it's Reason 20th anniversary?scotward57 wrote: ↑11 Nov 2020On the week that Ableton Live 11 and Cubase 11 are announced, Ryan Harlin is leading the way back to Reason 1.0.

They should add a Reason 1 download option on our accounts.
.rsn file sharing only. 100% old school.

I kinda miss emailing those tiny .rsn files back and forth. We were more "equal". No VST arms race. We 'knew' hardware was dead! Finally!

You absolutely could trigger individual REX slices with Dr Rex
I have a particular fondness for Reason 1 as it was the first Reason I used, though I ended up upgrading to Reason 2 not long after (I was a relatively "late" adopter in... 2002? I think?). I still think the extra NN-19/Dr REX/Matrix easter eggs were cool and I'm not sure why they got the chop after v1.
bought Live 10 suite in march before finally getting reason suit 11(held off because little was done to update reason and I had MANY of the racks included already)... apparently only those that buy Live 10 NOW get a discount? I am still installing the the packs that came with 10... can't keep up... sigh

Thanks for clearing that out! If you could only use the rec files as is it would have been pretty useless to me. I first got into Reason around the same year and I don't remember using much of rex loops. What were those Easter eggs on version 1?adfielding wrote: ↑12 Nov 2020You absolutely could trigger individual REX slices with Dr Rex
