I remember when I used to always be in search of the best all around controller...and/or the best all-in-one workstation. Searching for something that has displays that removes the necessity of looking at the computer screen for information.

And then I finally realized that laptops as I use them were the perfect solution all along...and I questioned why I would be trying to get away from its very informative display. Everything I need to see is on it.

I use a MacBook Air which runs on its battery all day long. Which is the next thing I don't get. Why doesn't this have a built-in battery? So now you move away from a computer, but have to be tethered to the wall (likely near your computer), or tethered to some external battery. For this price, and the size of the thing, it should have a built-in battery or allow removable battery.

There are things I look for in hardware these days. Analog (offering something other than digital) and/or something portable (runs on battery) and sometimes both if possible. The power of batteries is so much better these days, and companies continue to omit the battery power option, thinking that having a battery brick tethered is a viable and desirable solution—it can fall right out and it's an extra cost. That's no fun lol.
I pretty much agree. I also feel NI not including a built-in battery means they totally lost the plot - as they could have fired off a shot in the direction of the MPC Live/Live 2. But now it can't be marketed as truly standalone (well, not mobile anyway). I'm sure Maschine-heads will pick up an external battery solution anyway, but at the almost ridiculous cost they're asking for it? Yeah, it should have came with a battery.

And a speaker.

Stereo output only... ugh... then what's the point of it being standalone then? lol

Nice one. The word on the street is that it will support class compliant USB devices (MIDI controllers) + there is a plan to have ability to connect their audio interfaces line (to extend I/O) and KK keyboards.

Still, I will not drop my MacBook Air + MK3 combo for this :)

super interesting.
i can see why some might think a laptop and controller is better ... but you have to buy the software for the laptop, have the OS running, keep the OS maintained, install, download, update many different things, more powerful and in essence better yes, but at a cost, an overhead of effort, there is always a distraction.
my main setup is a laptop with Reason and a controller but I only ever fire it up to finish off a track these days (mix and master). For the last 6 months I have pretty much exclusively been using my digitone and opz together, I am in the market for more hardware and ill be having a close look at this. I am looking closely at the Digitakt, Octotrack, mpc one, deluge etc ... also Teenage Engineering are teasing a new release but knowing them it'll be a game controller or something haha.

my worry with akia one and this machine+ is that they will be more like using a laptop just with the controller built around it, will they be as much fun as the digitone or opz, I am especially addicted to the way Elektron stuff works hence why i am even considering selling my kidney to get an Octotrack ..

You're right, but using a computer obviously is costly and involves a lot of maintenance in terms of keeping the OS & other software. But on top of that, laptop + DAW + plugins present almost infinite possibilities, which for many is inspiring, but for others is distracting and destructive. I was the most productive on trackers, with 4 tracks and samples I could rip from games/demos or got on a floppy disk from friends ;) :D

No doubt many of you have seen this already. The most interesting thing about this is that, essentially, it's a Mk3 with a computer inside it. No new buttons. No new hardware features (apart from SD card, USB-A, etc.). So, potentially, this means any features that they develop for the + could/should make their way to existing Mk3 users also. Case in point, 'Clips'. Which actually sound super exciting. The obvious parallel is going to be with Live and its clips. Except this might even turn out to be...better? If it is what I think it is, it's basically ghost clips that can be freely placed on the timeline, but edited in one place to update throughout the song. Contrasted with Live which still requires you to build scenes and variations by duplicating song sections, or committing to regular arranger clips which don't behave like session view clips.

So yeah, definitely gonna be refreshing Access around the time of launch. Fingers crossed, there'll be goodies for us Mk3 users!

I'd love to know who's doing their product photography, and the gear they are using. All the details are so sharp and in focus.

Edit: It could be a 3D rendering.

All of the popular social network “influencers” always get dibs on early gear. Accurate Beats recently beat brain cancer in the last year, so I think he’s able to get “special” early advances.

I followed his struggle months later, when randomly watching his videos. When I saw he was updating his logo, his humour facing oblivion was incredible to me. He never made a big deal out of it (on YT), and kept trucking. We have some very good souls on YT, here, and everywhere else. Great positive energy. To me he's more than a "Hip Hop producer making boom bap beats, with a little bit of scratching on top" as he use to say.

Thought about it, but they are developing and creating the product from scratch, so they have the CAD files. They can dress it up for their marketing department, keeping everything in house, and reducing image leaks to a minimum, until the last moment.
IMHO.

Yes looks like 3D. Apple started the trend when they used Illustrator to produce the iPod product shots. I don't think any big electronics companies even bother with hiring a photographer anymore.

I think currently you can expand the outputs with ni interfaces, and apparently will expand to interfaces from other brands as well.

Our you can just go into the compiter and get stems, probably? Maybe even from within the plugin into your daw like normal maschine?

I realize this is a personal preference, but I feel Maschine's "sequencer" really isn't that great - especially compared to the current MPC line (MPC Live 2, One, and X). A user over at GS summed it up nicely. Basically, if you...
...own a (Roland) MC101/MC707...then that's Maschine's sequencer in a nutshell. It works pretty much the same way. Maschine has a bank of patterns that you can load into scenes just like an MC101/707. It just does it at a different scale since it has pretty much unlimited scenes and patterns (used to be limited to 64 at some point).

Maschine's sequencer is basically NI's take on a Roland MC based sequencer just on a 4X4 grid and maybe not as featureful.
Any Maschine-head thoughts?

This one comes with a yet to be released feature for the other maschines called clips I think which breaks out of that.

Currently I only use maschine as a sketch pad and for that it works wonders the way it is. Maybe with the new clips feature I might try using it to make entire pieces, who knows. It'll be there for those who want it, so I have no idea how the arrangement works for MPC, but the clips thing sounds promising.

I'm finding something quite troubling. So far, every single person who has shown off the Maschine+ hardware just sort of breezes over the fact that you apparently have the actual VST of Massive, FM8, Monark, and PRISM in a standalone beatmachine with no computer necessary. This is huge, and I'm blown away that no one is diving into the editing screens or showing off what these plugins look like under the hood!

Why are these users practically ignoring this? :o  :?

I guess we'll know given enough time. Once the final version is released we'll hear about it.

My guess is there's limited sound design capabilities on the hardware, but it will load any patches you create in the computer. Maybe they can be transferred over wi-fi, or just load them in the SD card 🤷‍♂️

If they all got the Beta OS like Accurate said, I would guess they are waiting for the final, ready to go version before a final judgement. Not being able to deal with a dir. manager for your own samples (Accurate's video) makes the + an unfinished project, no ready for the limelight. Just my guess.

These are basically NKS versions (same as you get in Maschine software or Komplete Kontrol).
Some parameters are missing but still plenty of sound sculpting possible.
