I don't get it. What would make friktion 'dead on' realistic?

A bow model with horse hair from a number of different horses?

He was looking too hard to fault the engine, imho.
Comparing it to other solo instruments is fine. With string ensembles? Why?
Maybe he's a violinist, that's why he was bit more critical?
Maybe he could see were that tech could be 5 years from now.
He said he is afraid it could become a very recognizable synth, like the DX7's presets.
I used to own a DX7. I wish I could play around with FM the way I can with Friktion (or PX7) now. A sweet, fun adventure.

I didn’t watch the video so this isn’t a comment to that but to the idea that something doesn't sound like the original.

Nothing will truly sound like and have the dexterity of a cellist but a competent cellist playing. An individual sample may sound accurate but how about an entire composition by a non-cellist? There will always be faults. To keep comparing is kind of an armchair elitist exercise without value.

The value of something like Friktion is more one of being a springboard for people who have never touched (and most likely will never touch) a cello, violin, erhu, whatever. Their potential for creativity and inspiration has been enhanced in an entirely new way.
