Haven't tried Friktion yet but it does look like a really cool instrument. I want to try it out, but my only worry is whenever RS release a new RE it will eventually be added in an upgrade, making an early purchase pretty worthless.
For this reason I'm hesitant to try or buy any REs seperately from RS now. They've created this pattern, release a RE, later add it to an upgrade or bundle, making it a terrible idea to buy seperate REs from them.
I was lucky with the R11 Suite deal because I didn't own most of the stuff included. Maybe Friktion will be added in a R12 Suite version?

So the question for me is, is it worth spending the extra money just to get an early access to Friktion? Hmm... :?

It may seem like it. But if the inspiration to make music with Friktion is here NOW it might be worth getting it now, despite being a terrible idea from an economic standpoint. Inspiration is a fickle thing. Sometimes you have to make use of that inspirational burst while it's still present. Maybe it'll turn into a little 4 track Friktion project or something. Then from my point of view it would totally be worth the full price. Might not happen if I wait 6 months to buy it.
But yeah from an economic standpoint it's most likely dumb as hell
I might have to flip a coin with this one. I'll be disappointed with my decision whatever I do. Can't win.

If inspiration is here NOW then you could maybe just download it for 30 days and see if anything happens with that inspiration :).

Yeah but I'm pretty sure I'll buy it if I do, then I'll have to live with my terrible wasteful choice and feel stupid when the next upgrade hits.
Guess I could set out to do my quickest EP project ever. 4 Friktion tracks in 30 days. That would be a challenge. Or maybe 3 tracks is more realistic... Hmm... :|

Maybe I should start a thread. "The 30 Day Friktion Challenge". Wonder if anyone would join me.

Just buy it. It’s probably worth the €109 just so you can stop thinking about it :).

Anybody tried this with a Leap Motion Controller? Or this controller in general in Reason?
Yes, I have both a Seaboard Block and a Leap Motion that I use with SWAM. I typically use the Leap Motion with a standard keyboard. I tried both with Friktion, but the bowing really just isn't great, and attempting this level of expression just makes that more evident. When it comes to Friktion, I just stick to the plucks and weird sounds which I really like.

Ok, thanks for that great feedback. Maybe i hold on a bit...maybe for SWAM or Friktion 2.0.

But the controller looks very interesting anyway...I got to see, what kind of controllers are out there. This Leap Motion was completely new to me and i always wanted something like this...

I used the demo of Friktion in a new idea I'm working on, and it sounds fantastic, but I'm not willing to spend that right now, so I decided to replace it with one of the stock pizzicato string patches from the FSB. it's kind of hilarious how the modeled version sounds every bit as good as an actual recording of strings--especially after having noticed there are some subtle, but definitely present clicks in some of the notes of the NNXT combi patch (Violas Pizzicato - SO).

I kind of feel the same generally. Sales, deals, possibility of bundle / package inclusion etc. But every so often something comes along that's special enough to warrant an insta-buy & discount such considerations. Complex-1 I couldn't buy quick enough! I think Friktion falls into the same category, despite the inevitable sale likely not too long down the track. Sold to me ;)

I'm having trouble with long attack times. I turn the attack knob up all the way, but it still seems short. Anyone here have any success in making slow attack sounds for ambient?

The envelope doesn't work like a traditional synth envelope. For the longest attack, from the initial patch set velocity, attack, decay, and sustain to max. Then, take the articulation control to the left of the display (orange) and drag the top (white) segment all the way down.

Yeah I hear you. Sometimes you just can't wait.
I started my trial yesterday. And I've decided to make at least 2 tracks with it during my 30 day trial. That way I'll get most of my Friktion fix for now and after that I'll probably be able to wait until a better deal comes a long. I'm hoping it'll to be included in a R12 Suite deal, or a standard R12 upgrade.

That Middle-Eastern demo was extremely well done - just WOW! The baroque one was good, but I tip my hat to the Middle-Eastern themed demo.

At first I was going to only share one video, then I saw the other one.
I just hope the (mostly bearded :D ) RS marketing department will add that video in the store. I have played it multiple times and it gets better and better.

Friktion is a hit.

This week Reason Studios’ own Mattias and Ludvig are joining Ryan to show their design thinking and creator tips for getting the most out of Friktion Modeled Strings

Should be a fun one

Really interesting and in depth stream...But somehow now i think, i need to study playing violins :-D

The overtone stuff and flute sounds made me more interested in Friktion now...

Since it's a "stringy" instrument, I had to try it through Kuassas Creme amp. Might be interesting to try to make a rock track with it.
Friktions Doubling setting to x4 players really worked here.
