When you troll, it is harder for others to troll you !

____

We can say many things, but it is creative! ....not Original, but creative.
I found the part when the genre changes the best, the sound FX for "his reaction" were great. Also the Sounds after the "achievements".
But the main Track.....mhh.. it does not get anything near the "feeling" of the show ( or better the plot) and i dont mean the 8bit style itself, more the chord progression used for it. It sounded kinda too "happy" for me imho.

And who´s to blame ? Taste !
If you’re calling me a troll for giving my opinion, have another look at what you opined - hardly a ringing endorsement , but I wouldn’t describe it as trolling either. If you think I’ve been a troll, then you’re welcome to report it. It’s a serious allegation, and can’t be qualified with a lol, just so you can get away with posting it.

An apology would be most welcome

Sorry for getting my sentence completely wrong.
I meant Spitfire trolling the participants and (nearly) everybody interested in that competition/"event".
I have nothing against your opinion, quite the opposite, thats why i quoted you. Especially your first sentences led me to the Troll point. ;-)

Again, sorry for the confusion

PS: I´m wondering how "troll" could be a "serious" allegation? Are you trolling ME now ? (pun intended ;-) ) ((shame on me  ))

friends :) ?

The Like/Dislike ratio wasn't scoring too well. Now gone!

This one should have been the winning entry:

What the "guy" told about the maximum speed.... i was really wondering myself about that !

i dont know if this was an entry in the competition, but if it was, it should have been in the runner ups section or at least a honorable mention ! :geek:

“Carry on with your uninformed small-minded criticism. It’s all here now in black and white for ever. The beauty of the internet. And as a reference of how I wouldn’t ever want to work with a single one of you. Nor you with me. Bad fit. It doesn’t even ever matter how good your music is or how smart you are... And since music and film-making are inherently collaborative, I can’t really see how any director will want to deal with that amount of entitlement and hubris.” - Hanz Zimmer

Spitfire Audio’s Westworld Scoring Competition descends into bitterness and acrimony as Hans Zimmer says of winner’s critics: “I wouldn’t want to work with a single one of you”

The question is, when the dust settles has it enhanced or tarnished the image of Spitfire Audio?

Mr Zimmer seems to think that the competition was entered by 11,000 wannabe film composers whereas I suspect 90% ore more of the entrants were just hobby musicians entering because it was fun and interesting. I had no chance or expectation of winning and I have no need or use for the prize. But I still think the winning entry is far worse than the runners-up!

Anyway, I'm really upset that Mr Zimmer does not want to work with me and that he chose to tell me via the internet rather than phoning me to tell me in person. I guess I'll have to cross "award winning film composer" off my list of possible retirement jobs. And, in a few years when I need a walking frame you can be sure it won't say Zimmer on it. That'll teach him

All I know is, Spitfire Audio puts out heaps of awesome free plugins with LABS. I've gotten so much value out of those and haven't spent anything. And Christian puts out a lot of great videos.

Edit: removed salt

I think the point is it's not really called for in this context. Just be happy for the winner. You can mention other entries you like, but what's the point of trying to tear down the winning entry and not letting that person have their moment?

Can you imagine if people here tried to tear down the winners of ReasonTalk competitions? You'd probably call them assholes. We wouldn't even have to moderate it, the community would take care of calling those people out. I think people have more sense of these things when it's something within their own community. I think some people act a little differently when they are a little more removed from something or someone.

I would agree, that in no case the winner should be the one to "blame" for/in this situation ! He just participated in the open Competition.
( joking: I dont think he bribed any person at spitfire )
_____________
But not forgetting that the winner is an "industry-insider"......again,it´s not the winner to blame for. ....at least, this leaves us with a "strange feeling".
_____________
Also i think that HZs Comment got out of "context":
When "some" people really "hateful" go against the winner and offend him for "everything" - that is just plain wrong ! And i think that HZ is going after that "attitude", but like his sentence is standing - it´s kind of bad wording, too !

After all we are all humans, which is our prove of "non-flawless-ness"
_____________

So who is to blame ?
The entry rules ? The judges ? Their taste ? Their "ear-fatigue" (after hearing X-times "the same" and then something different comes along) ?
(choose how it suits you ;-) ...and even add if you feel the need to )

I think this conversation would never end :geek:

Under those definitions, more people would be considered "industry insiders." His primary job is not as a professional composer.

Why does anybody need to be blamed? What for? They held a competition and they chose something they found to be creative and that they liked. The judges included the executive producer, the show's creators, and the show's composer! That is incredibly important to note. People are trying to say that their choice disrespected the show? How? It was chosen by the executive director, the show's creators, and the show's composer! (yes, I said it twice lol)

And it was never promoted as a competition to have music actually placed in the show. My guess from the beginning was that they were not going to choose a typical score. They hear scores all the time...and tons of drafts. So while many people might have thought the winning entry to be too different, they probably found it refreshing.

As I had quoted Paul in the first post here:
So get writing. It doesn't matter how old you are. It doesn't matter if you've done this before. It doesn't matter what sounds you're using. We're looking for creativity.
So I'm glad HZ stood up for the winner and everybody involved. The people who created the show and the people who handed out the prizes are happy. Everything else beyond that is just whining.

There are better ways to express opinions. People do it here with our competitions... It's simply done by pointing out what your favorite entry was without dragging down the winner or the choice of the judges. You say, "Congrats to the winners! Thanks for organizing this—it was fun. This entry was my personal favorite..." Done. But there are some people out there being very mean with their words and getting very heated about it. It's unnecessary.

Mhhh... lets take a look at his website :

DAVID KUDELL, PRODUCER/DIRECTOR

Before creating Rimrock Creative Media, David worked as a sound editor in Hollywood on over 25 feature films (Black Hawk Down, The Matrix Reloaded, Mission Impossible 3). From 2007-2015, he created and managed the in-house Pechanga Creative Studios and was responsible for TV commercial production at Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, CA.

that is just a part of it, you can take a look yourself here :

when that is not "inside-industry" , what would you consider ? :eh:

Anyway, i dont know how i would call it either. Is it a sh*tstorm, but with different sh*t than "usually" ?

Your right, especially about the "whining" point ! (Thats why i try to take everything sarcastical - i wont lose the humour ;-) )

I mean we could discuss more different perspectives but that would not really make any sense. So the competition came to an end.......

"Game Over" ... everybody go home now !

Perhaps you misread? I said more people would then be considered "industry insiders." It's not uncommon. The majority of my friends work in film and theatre and if you're cutting out people who work in film, you're cutting out many of the people I know. And you highlighted credits of sound editing, after I pointed out his primary job is not composing...

First
"Industry insider" can mean many things - for example it would have been different when the winner had come from the "Make-Up" or "Stage Sets" or "Catering" or even the "Security" -department(s) aso. That would still have been "inside-industry" but from a complete different perspective.

Second
I am not cutting out anybody. That was not even a small part of my point. My point was "just" that this leaves many people with " a strange feeling". (Yeah, there is nothing to "go to court" ! (overdramatic) ;-) )

joeyluck wrote:

My point was the "Insider", but none the less.....sorry, i thought you would go to his website and read a bit further, but ok, here it is:

David's expertise includes the entire video production process - producing, directing, writing, cinematography, editing, motion graphics, sound, music composition, and color grading. This allows Rimrock to serve as a one-stop shop for smaller projects, or scale up to large campaigns by bringing on a crew of trusted collaborators.

Now.... if you will go down your "primary" wording ? Yeah, you´re correct !
But then i would ask you.... really ? ....... i mean REALLY ? :wtf: ( you really dont get "my point" ?)

I've been working on this quite a lot over the last 2 weeks, and finally finished it (and it's the cutoff date today). I used Logic, but did a little processing in Reason. Also you should check out Spitfire audio's free LABS plugins, they're really really good.

Hi Bloma,

of all the entries that were posted here, I really found yours the best. You really understood the dynamics of the scene very well and accompanied it musically. The way in which you use the sounds very tastefully is also great. Respect!
