So this neural network is called Jukebox, by OpenAI, which basically generates songs that don't exist. Also bonus AI upscaled gifs of Rick Astley, which definitely doesn't make him look like Satan spawn.

In a recent thread about players I wrote:
"in all honesty though, I think that despite the thoroughly luddite idea that a human element is needed in musical composition, just like chess there will be a time in the near future when AI will become so powerful it will learn and analyse all of recorded music in a matter of days, then using popularity data it will discern the patterns/harmonies/chord progressions that are most pleasing and write better music than any of us."

I stand by this prediction.

Though I was quite dissappointed I could not discern any new, AI-generated things that Rick Astley would not do to me.

Stock Aitken and Waterman made many massive hit songs and none of them are human. Unless the Daily Mail has got it wrong again.

I met one of the PWL guys in London. His living room walls were filled with gold albums. I had to pee, and found out his toilet walls were filled with the 7"gold records. That was funny as hell...

Haha! I've only ever met one of them once. I tried to sell him a song. Failed.

I'm not sure it's the future.
Sure, the pop music thing will go that was but it kinda has already. So much of it's just template music that;s indistinguishable from anything araound it. To me anway.
But people like to make music. They like to play chess even if they know they'll lose.
So I figure the interesting thing won't be how we're replaced but how we'll combine w AI in a waythat has adjustable parameters. You could write a song and re-amp it theough the AI a few times like randomising parameters for example.

Anyway, I won't complain. We'll get loads more Led Zep albums. We'll have a virtual John Bonham! A kind of virtual musical Jurrasic Park. Can't wait.

Also, another interesting aspect ot the whole AI thing is Alpha Go, the go (game) algorythm, which beat the world champ in Korea. Go has so many variables you can't just teach it go like you do chess. Way to many possibilities. So the way it won is a mystery to everyone including the Dev's that built it. There's a great documentary on it called Alpha Go that explaines it all in detail. But the point is the AI demonstrated creativity in ways no one expected, and the Korean champ was blown away by it in a seemingly positive way rather than just being depressed. He reckoned it would change how we play go for the next century. I'm a chess player so I don't really get the subtlties there but the theory is amazing.

I would like to see this applied to 'Hey Jude' then rolled into Stephen King's 'Dark Tower' series as an ongoing theme / backstory...
