less people going to gigs
less musicians wanting to share musical equipment (like microphones) at gigs or even in recording studio i guess.

I have noticed a slight reduction in musical equipment on amazon due to economy downturn. I managed to replace my broken nektar p6 with another one at a well reduced price.

You have to acknowledge that as far as viruses go in the past 10-20 years this is a very successfull one . Some say that warm weather might stave it off . Here's hoping.

Virtual Olympics? I forgot about that...

Some musicians are running performances on local venues's facebook pages instead of live...
I have no idea how that could be turning up into... there's a lot of talk about it on socials on this issue.

On a slightly more amusing note, there's tonnes of job adverts on Facebook right now looking for cruise ship musicians! Apparently the attrition rate is really high at the moment for some reason. :D
My friend just quit the job, he did not board for a matter of days on a very unlucky one....
He's now quarantined...

Yeah.
Me rolling out the industrial subsea ambient music, the herd wanting to dance...
Reminds me of an awkward interview from years back on Radioeins in Berlin. I'm there doing the Long Now festival (long slow ambient stuff right?...) and the interviewer wants to know if I've got anthing a bit more pop to play.
WTF?

That looks like they've taking the 3000+ deaths so far and divided by the 60+ days which gives an average of 56 per day. But that's not how a virus work, there were very few deaths at the start, and it's increasing exponentially.
So if you compared this virus with the other "killers" a few months ago it wouldn't have even made the list! Meaning, we won't accurately know how it compares to other "killers" until it has already run its course, at which point it won't really matter because it will be history.
and that’s *if* it runs its course and fizzles out. other viruses end up becoming seasonal, and are managed with vaccinations and antiviral drugs. I believe the last H1N1 virus is an example (I may be confusing it with another one though).

the real point at which we could potentially start comparing them is when COVID reaches some saturation point within the population. until then, comparing these numbers is interesting, but not instructive.
Putting pneumonia in it's own category could easily conflate with one virus leading to that cause. I don't love the clarity of this infographic whatsoever. However, we musn't forget all the continuing health issues and ongoing factors while we fight on the covid front.

I crunched some numbers earlier today on world population.

The figures are grim. This is a major problem.

Maybe COVID-19 will re balance the scales to a +/- zero count for a few years. I doubt it, though.

If humankind wants to keep going on in our current way of living, then we need a virus that will kill 79 million people every year.

predictably, the infographic was updated a day after it was posted here, and shows the deaths per day at 70, up from 56. as the virus spreads, more people get sick, and more people die. surprise.

So you're a proponent of bio-tech methods of mass extermination. Why not a WW3 or gas chambers? Or do you think that a virus would help us keep our hands clean? How is it any better than a decline of births in face of actual resource shortage?

I got 50 packs of pasta for $0.2/pack and 30 cans of saury for $0.8/can.

1 pasta pack + 1 can of saury = 3 meal rations

Humans are the most destructive animal on this planet, and we are facing serious consequences for the unchecked population growth of this wicked species. I am in favor of a mandatory release of a virus to not even reduce the population, merely to suspend the total count. The number of births should equal the number of deaths. Countries with a greater variance (of births vs deaths) will have a greater amount of virus deployed into their country. A virus that does not discriminate on age, sex, race or religion. But lucky for you Russia is the only future-positive country in the sample set I prepared, so you're exempt .... for the moment.

And quite frankly, anyone in 2020 and beyond who plans on having more than one child should be rendered medically sterile. It is a selfish & self serving act to keep adding to the world's destruction just because one wants 'a family', a the cost of the planet's finite resources.

Reffering back to the original topic, do you think fewer humans make better music?

What you're suggesting about the upcoming exhaustion of planet resources is questionable. Is it really high time to react? We humans have been fighting for resources since ancient times.
To me, it's an improper thing to even consider, as it's not our business to decide over people's life and death. If one has an idea about bringing the New Order, that will inevitably end up with some nasty things like it did before in history. One might decide they needed a Lebensraum or that some nations were a plague.

I don't see any overpopulation problem. Even if it exists, why not just ignore it and let Allah sort things out so we stay human at least?

We've had big waves on our population-by-age graph since WW2 and now we're observing a periodic decline in the reproductive age.

There has been a strange demand for toilet paper in some countries recently. I'm puzzling over what it could be good for.
