Hey all, I hope you're staying safe while this Corona thing is passing by!

I wonder if this has had any impact on your creativity/music making?

I guess you've all already heard this guy:

Sometimes I'll have a few coronas before jumping into music. Helps me to stop overthinking.

On a serious note, the only thing it has affected for me is the amount of overtime I'm getting at work. Panic shoppers are going crazy. Statistically it's not a threat, not entirely sure what the panic is about

It is a threat though. One needn't panic, just be careful and mindful. Certainly, if I needed to stay home for 2 weeks, I would want to have stuff to eat 😂

I'm always ready for such situations. My kitchen racks are full of pasta and canned fish, so I can stay at home for 3 months at least, like in a submarine.

Heh that's a nice theme for a song called "Corona Prepper"

I haven't seen any signs of panic shopping where I live (Sweden), other than the fact that hand sanitizers are completely out of stock in our drugstores.

That's a good idea anytime... Personally I'm on a low carb diet, so bottles of olive oil will keep me well fed for quite some time...and fridge always filled with slow-cooked meat

Agree...I did change my shopping pattern since January, buying a bit more than I immediately need, and now I have a proper stock of food.

I've always had some bags of rice in the pantry, so I guess i'm covered!

One concern that I have is that I won't be able to go on vacation at the end of month. Everything is paid for, and I don't think I'd be able to get a refund.

How could a virus impact on music making, unless of course you have it?

They told us we weren’t allowed to share needles on account of a virus. Now we’re not allowed to share microphones.

It’s affecting the porn industry in LA so it could possibly be disrupting the music industry there as well. Me personally as long as I am healthy and have an internet connection and my guitar I’m good to go.

Well that's what I'm curious about!
For quarantined musicians, maybe something similar to a blackout baby boom

I'm on a music making pause since last year, but significant events tends to have some creativity impact on me.

Did you end up pulling the trigger on that Producer's retreat in Bali ?

Dude, that's so fucking cool, good on you !

I don't know you, but I'm genuinely happy for you. Enjoy your first ever time abroad !

Hope you might consider making a new thread outlining your experience of both the location and the retreat itself. It's a rare opportunity to be locked up with other producers and talking about production.

And don't worry too much about travel restrictions, if they come into play, it's out of your control. Just work on the basis that it's all going ahead as planned.

One little bit of advice, and apologies if you've already looked into this, but do check to see what the current immigration policy is for Indonesia granting a VOA or 'Visa on Arrival' for Americans. You wouldn't want to turn up, only to be deported on the next flight home.

Thanks, it should be interesting!

Only way I won't be able to go is if there are restrictions in Singapore, since one of my flights is connecting through there.

I checked on the visa situation. As long as I'm not there for longer than 30 days I'm all good.

For what it's worth, my sister and her family returned from there 1.5 weeks ago. Two adults & one 4 year old, for a week. They said that most of Singapore was DESERTED, due to people staying indoors. They were free to roam wherever, there's no government lockdown as such.... What that means for COVID-19 is that it's less likely to spread in Singapore.

Since this thread is, after all, on Corona, here's another consideration. The vast majority of confirmed diagnoses are in China, followed by South Korea. No other countries have had it break out to anywhere near the same levels as those two countries... yet.

In saying this..... 8 new countries have reported cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. It will continue to spread. Tomorrow's WHO report may add some new countries. There is nothing that can presently be done to stop this.

I spoke to a Doctor friend of mine yesterday, and she says it's inevitable that it will be 'in the wild' within a month. That does not mean that everyone will get it. And of those that do, most able-bodied people will ride it out, just like regular influenza. She also suggested that a vaccine (much like the regular 'flu shot some people get) would be at least 12 months away from development.

According to the latest World Health Organization data, effective 8th March (ie; today) there are confirmed cases as follows

China: 80,859
Republic of Korea: 7,134

Globally, 105,000 cases. Around 82 % in only these two countries.

And of the same report, there have been 0 deaths in Singapore from CV19 to date. The likelihood of your in-transit visit to Singapore will see you pulled up.

Unless you have a fever. Then, well you may be screwed. Ive been hearing that some airports are doing a whole-body temperature scan of commuters. And Singapore is a very high-tech airport.

here in Germany they start to shut down more and more bigger events of all sorts (with >1000 people). this definitly has an impact on touring artists that make a living from music or other stage arts. Bands or Djs or comedians etc. my band that i mix has a gig planed on 29.03. for a festival. we will see how this will be in a few weeks from now.

around the area were i live, there are starting to pop more "infections" every day.

me personlay think that at some point i will maybe get the virus my self. but i can't do anything about it anyways. and mabe even don't recognize that i have it. i'm in good health condition and think i will be fine after a few weeks.

Seriously though, it's just a family of flu viruses. Like with the flu, if you are older and sickly or your health (respiratory system to be exact) has been compromised to begin with, it CAN be fatal - EXACTLY like with the flu.
