Man I hate naming songs

For me it's the worst part about making music, coming up with a decent name for a piece of music I've written.
A lot of times when I hear my music I can get clear pictures in my head, but to actually translate those pictures to a proper song title, that's a different thing.
I hate it. Sometimes I'm thinking maybe it's better to just call a track "Song number 128" or whatever and just leave the interpretation to the listener. A good song title can add to the music for sure, but many times I would almost prefer to not have a name at all and let the music speak for itself.

Thanks. I've tried several song name generators out before. Sometimes they can help, but not always. Haven't tried that particular one yet though, so maybe I'll try it and add it to my song generators list.

I start every project with a working title, literally whatever is on my mind at that moment. 'Cold without the fire lit.' for example. Then if a title comes to me as the music takes over I will rename it to that otherwise the working title stays.

Which leads me to another missing Reason feature, allow the renaming of a project when creating two files. I know FL Studio does this for one.Jackjackdaw wrote: ↑05 Mar 2020I start every project with a working title, literally whatever is on my mind at that moment. Me too man! Not sure if the title of a song ever changed my opinion of it. It can set a "mood" maybe to entice someone to want to listen but the music always speaks for itself.TritoneAddiction wrote: ↑05 Mar 2020For me it's the worst part about making music, coming up with a decent name for a piece of music I've written.

I take it these don't have vocals then? as the title is usually the chorus.

No my music typically doesn't have any vocals.Creativemind wrote: ↑05 Mar 2020I take it these don't have vocals then? as the title is usually the chorus.
points are subtracted when a great band insists on naming all their songs after the chorus or hook. especially if there are more interesting lyrics in the song that could have been used for the name. bonus points when a song has a cool name about the theme, but doesn’t use any of the lyrics.
I keep a separate list of song, topic, and lyric ideas that strike me as interesting, using the Notes app on my phone, and jot them in there as I go about my day. I imagine that might be even more useful if most of your music is instrumental, since you have to worry (a little bit) less about matching the vibe.
or you could just give everything people names like Frank, or Gertrude, or Samantha, or Bill, or...

I don't like making songs until they're fleshed out because otherwise I find myself that titles influence direction and I don't want that unless I really want that, which I seldom do cause the outcomes are rarely satisfactory.
One should never give up on naming things. The name may not define or describe it completely, but at least bridge the gap between the world of meaning and the musical one.

Thought so. If there's no chorus with vocals to give your song a title then usually (I'm guessing it's dance music of some nature) the name of the song should reflect the overall feeling of the song. Say it was a sunken kind of tune (just as an example) then "Melancholia" might be a good title.TritoneAddiction wrote: ↑05 Mar 2020No my music typically doesn't have any vocals.Creativemind wrote: ↑05 Mar 2020I take it these don't have vocals then? as the title is usually the chorus.

So to give you guys a concrete example. I just finished this track. My picture in my head is something like this:
The setting is a place where everything/buildings/surroundings, all is made of metal. It's a cold, harsh, futuristic, industrial environment. A big towering Godzilla like creature is walking around and completely dominating the helpless humans.
It could also be two giant creatures fighting it out at some type of arena, like a fight between two bosses
No how the hell do I translate any of these ideas into a nice song title? Help me out here.

"The Battle between Two Yokozunas"
Great one
Their song generator requires lyrics, so I didn't make it past the first hurdle!

Comnmg up with ironic funny names is easy. It's the serious ones that are hard.
For me either it falls out of my head or I'm screwed.
At the mo I've got an album ready for release in april but it has no title and no real track names. Whole thing is done and press photos taken but no name and nothing to say about it in the press release. I[ve been through so many random variations at this point I've just gone blank.

We can apply the same guidelines to artist names as we might for a pornstar name.
The name of your first pet + the name of the first street you lived on.
Keep an eye out on the charts for 'Fluffy Avalon'
