reason has enough stuff as stock , i think reason needs to open the world to more organic stuff , strings orchestral , sampled stuff to open rack extensions to the world , all that is in the shop is more of what we have in reason already for the most part ,

Wouldn't a better stock sampler be needed for that?

Hmm... I cannot follow you. I bought a lot of stuff because it was and still is NOT available in Reason.

I have to assume the OP’s point is that there’s little need to include more of those things in Reason itself, which I agree with—because of the reasons others have stated. you can now use many third party effects to fill any gaps.

but the flip side of that is that the same thing applies for the orchestral/sample-based stuff. there’s arguably just as little need for RS to include more of those kinds of devices in the stock Reason DAW/VST. you can just buy what you need from third parties.

which opens RS to a grand opportunity—and <gasp> actually focus on the user-experience, workflow, GUI, and bring the DAW up to modern standards.

maybe your right i guess in talking for myseld really as i dont want to use vst or rack extensions , i have a couple of refills and am happy apart from id like some better orchestral sounds really but then some of the patches in reason are ok so i guess ill deal with it as i dont use full orchestras anyway , , i think your right actually m8

it all depends on what you need to make the music you have in mind, of course Reason alone can be enough to make good music, but if you need a good strings library or some good ethnic sounds then you are most likely needing some VSTi's

I wouldn’t say I’m “right”—just an opinion. :) I’m sure lots of folks would rather have more instruments than the stuff I want them to add, so you’re not alone.

out of curiosity, is there a particular reason you want to avoid Rack Extensions and VSTs?

The OP's suggestion is fine, but how big should Reason be?

Yes. I don’t really need more stock devices, but I may be in the minority. I wish RS would focus solely on upgrading the architecture of Reason. (The Rack Plug-in is technically a workflow improvement, although the inability for instances to talk to each other and the lack of multiple MIDI-out kills it for me.) There are high-quality third-party instruments and effects being offered for FREE all over the web now, so it seemed silly for me to pay $129 for a few effect devices and automation curves. I almost went for the Suite or one of the Rigs but I slapped myself out of it at the last minute. It felt like the shoe store not having the shoes you want in your size so you buy some random pair just to feel like you did something. So I’m still on v10. We’ll see what happens next time.

Organic is not really a feature specific thing. There are too many ways to produce in reason and they have just kept adding to it.

There are tons of soundfonts and custom refills for texture

ah, gotcha. I don't use orchestral libraries too often these days, but I imagine if you want the best sounding ones, they'll cost you.

it’s called Gear Acquisition Syndrome, and it’s perfectly normal, no matter how contradictory your justifications for buying or your buying habits themselves may get. if you buy more orchestral libraries that your computer can’t handle, then obviously you also need to buy a new computer. 😂

yet allmost untouched is the rythm section every genre has 20 or 30 varients worth a listen or play or copy or meld or whatever, possibly a rythmater device in the rack for our edification would be fun i find the octorex a bit limiting

The only argument I could follow is “there’s not enough demand for heavy development into a top notch compressor/EQ for RE format that will sell for $100-200.” That boat has sailed, sadly for a couple companies that invested heavily in high-end tools, which were FAR outside of the range of most Reason users.

$29 and under? Develop away!

I think if you sell something for more than 100, regardless a VST or RE, it must be uber mega hyper awesome and this is pretty impossible today. Instead of making the next new Ubersynth, a special unique thing is way better - or make it modular to expend it in future.

I feel really bad for them having jumped onboard as early RE adopters, but they TOTALLY misjudged the market they were after. Same for some others, we made RE's that were nothing but ports of VST's to RE format, and offered NOTHING new or extra (cough cough Korg RE synths cough cough).
