Reason Studios just announced (again):
Apple is just about to release macOS 10.15 Catalina. This new version of their operating system includes many great improvements, but can also affect Reason Studios products, technologies and other parts of your music-making system.

We are currently working hard to ensure compatibility with macOS Catalina. In the meantime, we recommend that you do not update to macOS 10.15 until we have made a full compatibility statement.

Please check this support article for the latest news on Reason Studios products and macOS Catalina.

Gee isn't it wonderful that an OS update breaks everything?

Seems to be the running theme on OSX. Reason isn't the only DAW that's affected - there's a ton of others out there also having issues.

I’ve always updated any macOS or OS X version in the past and it worked like a charm (or ran several macOS beta’s). Of course this is a bit anecdotal, but this is the first time I’ve seen an official warning beforehand. Something must be given them real problems this time, I guess...

Well, this time you should proceed with caution. Ableton has stated Catalina breaks Live 9. Pro Tools has issues. There's a plethora of others. It's good you've never had issues, but your experience is most certainly anecdotal.

I'm still on High Sierra. I didn't have a need to even upgrade to Mojave. Any OS, every new version, software makers say to hold off. Often times developers are ahead of the curve with changes, with this one seems like many of them were out of the loop or a bit behind with testing.

If you are interested, here's a very good read, to get a feeling why all the fuss. Many developers will have to work hard to make their (previously working) software compatible with Catalina.

This update and the price of macs make me want to jump ship. Been emailing them for years to try help fix my icloud acc so i can can actually save stuff to it but their cust care reps know even less than i do. Last two updates havn't gone well for me as they resulted in me having to buy a new ssd each time as OS found corruption errors on update (which rendered them void)
I think their revenue is mainly built on the iphone nowadays as more and more people switch to pc. I have heard nightmare stories of repair times and costs for their macbook pro's for last couple of years but what really put me off their newer models is the price , the (apparently) troublesome T2 security chip and ...the fact that the drives are soldered onto the motherboard ( good luck trying to retrieve data if something goes wrong) ...its actually a case of when something goes wrong with the drive because of the massive overheating problems that occur beacue of the thinness of the design which is a 'fashion' thing.

As soon as Catalina is released I'm going to install it on my MacBook pro and I'll let you know if Reason still works.

I can sympathize with You on a new Mac whatever purchase being expensive, but jumping ship for an iCloud mishap??

Tis alot worse than that in fairness. I can no longer purchase anything from the app store...my password isn't recognised...pop mail server dosn't recieve or i can't send messages anymore. 'problem with icloud server' etc etc. I think my apple id is jammed between two icloud accounts (the 2nd i set up to try and fix the problem myself). I couldn't get a definitive answer on the macrumours forum or apple online or 3 trips to the nearest apple store which is a 4 hour drive and i strongly suspect that its the major cause of corruption issues everytime ii try update to a new OS. Tbf this thread isn't the place for me to be talking about this. I may start a thresd in the kitchen forum sometime but it's such a tedious problem i don't think that will help!

I must say I've never heard about a Mac OS update as much as I've heard about this Catalina - every audio software developer from here to Christendom saying "DO NOT UPDATE TO CATALINA".
As an outsider, I'm left with the impression Apple have just totally fucked over developers, which is not a good look.

Yeah virtually all audio software devs have announced that they're not compatible. But not all is lost if you decide to pick up the rumoured new Macbook, Band in a Box 2019 is the first DAW to officially support Catalina.

This is so strange. I can't understand why a company would want to protect their flagship DAW on their own OS, making the other DAW makers work harder. At the last 'minute'.
Surely this is the last time this company will do such a thing.

It worth to mention, that Apple has relaxed Catalina notarization requirements until January 2020. Some software may currently work on Catalina, but soon this will not be the case.

Thanks. But I'm going to stay on Mojave for a while, because I still need some programs that unfortunately only run in 32-bit mode. Mojave still does a good job here.
