For me, it's Prince.

Nobody did it better imho. From performance, to style to hip, vs. hype.

He had it all. Man, I miss him.

Hendrix for me. It's mind boggling to think what his musical output could have been had he lived longer.

Oh that’s a tough one. Michael Jackson, IAMX, Muse, Crosses, Filter are all #1 in my book.
But if it was life or death to choose 1?
HmmmmmmMichael Jackson.

There's this joke, "I read the dictionary because it has all the other books in it already." That's a good description for why I love Frank Zappa.

Not at all - the thread's called 'All-Time Favs' that's favourites from all-time - most of us are over 18 years old, so wouldn't necessarily consider someone who's first release was in 2011 to be an all-time favourite...

That's probably why no-one else is naming 'what is new creatively' in this thread no?

I've heard a lot of music that I think is some of the greatest ever, but 5 or 10 years later, somehow it no longer has the same impact or relevance. The ones that make this list, for me, are those that continually stand the test of time...

Beatles
Sinatra
Ella
Judy
Dylan
Django
Chopin
Hendrix
Puccini
Zeppelin

and probably a few others...

Led Zeppelin.

Despite not being of my time, I began buying records from many bands of the 1960s' British Invasion' era, and my interest in those artists comes and goes these days, but Zeppelin never, ever fail to deliver a solid listening experience. Well, I'm excluding that piece of crap last studio album but whatever.

Not many bands can pivot between styles like they did, whether it be blues, folk, downright gentle and balls-out big rock, LZ has it covered. And the combination of three amazing musicians in John Paul Jones, John Bonham & Jimmy Page was the perfect cocktail. It's no surprise that all three always end up in 'top 100 of all time' lists. For them to be all in the same band is outstanding.
