Stockholm, Sweden, September 5, 2019, UJAM today expanded their virtual instruments series with the new Virtual Drummer Rack Extensions. Available immediately at Propellerheads (soon to be Reason Studios), these new instruments allow producers to create drum tracks with UJAM’s trademark simplicity and fail-proof musicality.

The Virtual Drummer Rack Extension series will replace the A-List Drummer series by Propellerhead with immediate effect. “With the new brand Reason Studios, we will sharpen the focus on our core values,'' says Lukas Lyrestam, Product Manager of the A-List Drummers, and adds: “UJAM has been a partner of the A-List series since day one, the merging with their Virtual Drummer series is a good thing”

All three products are available immediately and sell for $ 99 / 99 € each, with the bundle selling for $ 199 / 199 € exclusively in the Propellerhead / Reason Studios shop. Users who already own one or more A-List Drummers qualify for a special cross-grade price.

Cross-grade prices are $/€19 if you own an A-List Drummer and want to get the matching Virtual Drummer, $/€39 if you own the A-List Drummer Bundle and want to get the Virtual Drummer Bundle, and last but not least $/€99 if you own an A-List Drummer and want to upgrade to the Virtual Drummer Bundle.

Talking about the changes made, Sebastian Bretschneider, Product Manager of the Virtual Drummer series, adds: “The new Rack Extensions offer twice the styles, new mastering tools, new instrument selection and manipulation controls just like the VST, AU, and AAX update we did a few weeks ago, meaning we’re not only putting a new UI on top but adding substantial cool new features and content.”

The three new titles cover all popular musical styles:
  • SOLID (formerly known as A-List Studio Drummer), is like having a seasoned professional drummer playing a pristine drum kit on your track
  • PHAT (formerly known as A-List Classic Drummer), has you covered on styles ranging from Retro Soul to G-Funk and beyond
  • HEAVY (formerly known as A-List Power Drummer), is a forceful indie and rock drumming specialist.
All three Rack Extensions are also included as part of the Virtual Drummer RE Bundle. This bundle is available immediately from the Propellerhead shop and saves you 33% compared to buying the products individually!

Daniel Ruczko of UJAM describes the new features of the Virtual Drummer Rack Extension series (from video below): "The beautiful new interface has many new controls, and each drummer has now 60 styles and 150 new presets, so you can push those sounds into exciting new territories. You can also mix and match instruments from five different drum kits, letting you build-up a custom kit with the exact drums that you want. Virtual Drummer now offers a Mixer and Master section, with new controls like Decay and Tune, giving you even more creative control over your sound."

The new Virtual Drummer Rack Extensions are exclusively sold by Propellerhead / Reason Studios: https://music.ujam.com/ujam-rack-extensions

Ahh, nice.
How/where would one buy the bundle crossgrade?
And will that include the VST versions?
:reason: Most recent track: resentment (synthwave) || Others: on my YouTube channel •ᴗ•

You’ll get a newsletter from Propellerhead containing your individual voucher code to redeem the cross-grade discount in the shop. The VST versions are not included.

Is there any difference between RE versions and VSTs? The REs are significantly cheaper ($/EUR30 a piece) and with the incoming Rack VST it'd make sense to get those if they're on par.

The VST and RE versions are selling at the same price of $/€99 each or $/€199 for the bundle.

Where did you get that number from? It's 19€ for one RE crossgrade, 39€ for the bundle crossgrade or 99€ if you have one A-List and want the whole bundle.

I thought there's $/eur30 difference between RE and VST versions of drummers, but I was mistaken :)

Phew, I’m glad that it was an honest mistake. We put a lot of effort in those REs and hope that you like it :)

I’ve got Phat VST. Anybody know if there’s a crossgrade before I write and ask ujam?

Can I have one more Q although I'm not sure you are allowed to answer that - your new devices don't sport the same "virtual hardware" look anymore like the "old" A-list stuff or even Propellerhead's own recent(ish) Reason Drum Kits or Reason Electric Bass. They're actually closer in style and aesthetic to Reason 11's new Quarter, Sweeper or Scenic devices.

Is this a change in Reason Studios' guidelines for GUIs?

Apparently there's 50% discount going RE -> VST, so I imagine would be similar the other way around:

Sounds good.. When the "a-list series" got released I was quite sceptical about it (you know, the classic: 'wow, now we don't need musicians anymore because anyone can do it!') but when I played with some devices myself I was quickly sold because of their overall quality and ease of use. More so: you don't have to go 'auto' if you don't want to. Even better: you can easily set up "hybrid setups" (meaning: one part automated and other parts done manually, but using the same instrument(s)).

The only 'problem' is that I prefer using material from the Props themselves and keep 3rd party stuff a bit away from my rack.. but that ideal failed anyway when I picked up 2 rigs (and the Synapse collection, I'm very happy with that one too).

I'm definitely going to crossgrade... time to check my mail again :puf_bigsmile:

There’s no kind of GUI guideline by Reason Studios. We wanted our REs to look like our VSTs though.

We’re currently working on some kind of cross-grade offer for our VST users. You’ll most probably get an newsletter from us, if we’re able to offer a special price :)

Happy to hear that you’re going for the cross-grade. To be honest with you, the A-List Drummers were developed by UJAM for Propellerhead, but I get where you’re coming from regarding 3rd party REs ;)

To quote: “PHAT (formerly known as A-List Classic Drummer), has you covered on styles ranging from Retro Soul to G-Funk and beyond”.

I’ve got Phat VST...does that mean I have, essentially, had A-List Classic this whole time in VST form? If so then it’s just as well I didn’t buy the A-List RE. In addition, why did nobody mention this previously?

This has been well known. Was mentioned on the Propellerhead shop pages, UJAM product pages, the back of the Rack Extensions, and discussed here over the years :)

If you have version 1 of the VST, it is very much similar to the A-List version. If you have version 2 of the VST, it is more or less the same as the new Virtual Drummer REs (differences being things like the CV on the back of the RE).

Must have missed it then. Maybe because it was on the back of the REs. :). Thanks.

Yeah, perhaps not well known to everybody  If you poke around the forums, you'll find talk about it. viewtopic.php?f=7&t=7492208

I always enjoy plugging this interview with Peter Gorges. Had such a fun time doing this one.

There may be more fun facts in there that you may not have been aware of :geek:
