as for used in popular songs...that’s a bit beside the point, isn’t it?

DAWs are used for more than radio pop music. Choirs are reasonably common in soundtrack work, and while Humana is far from being a replacement for a fully-fleshed-out dedicated library that could more realistically carry foreground melodic parts, it's handy for basic choral pads if you can't justify investing in something more advanced.

Here's a song I made that uses some aahs and oohs. It's not famous yet, but most people thought this to be an entertaining song.

I'm surprised it gets so much use! All power to you. Personally I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.
On its own it sounds boring and recognizable. But it´s actually quite useful to quickly stack/layer it on top of other pads to give them some sonic variation and push the sound into a more mystical/majestic/sublime direction.

Humana works really well with in Psytrance too. (slap Aligator or any gate on it for instant win)

I have Soundiron's fully realized choral Kontakt libraries, of which Humana is a small subset, but sometimes when I just need a simple vocal pad or accent, I'll throw Humana in the rack instead of one of the big Kontakt libraries. For example, the vocal "grunts" on this track are Humana:

In the 90s I loved my choir patches.
I'm not sure who is using them these days but they are good with layering pads, strings, pianos, the more mellotronish ones makes good leads, or even like a 90s digitally lead.
Usually there's always some aahs, eehs and oohs - but how about iihs?
