Compression REs
Thanks for the responses so far! I own my fair share of VSTs, but no compression Racks outside of what comes stock with Reason. The stock devices are quite useable. I grab MClass pretty often for basic utility work (light first-stage leveling, de-essing, anything else that requires clean and predictable compression). I enjoy Pulverizer for the opposite end of the color spectrum, although with the mix knob it's definitely capable of subtler enhancements.
But, you know, you can never have enough...

Cool
FET; classic 80s comp feel, kinda shimmery
FRG; nice on the low end, easy to dial in
670; nice on mid range and higher spectrum stuff, very clean and subtle
Leveler; upwards comp and perfect for 'thickening' sound while avoiding overs
Mace; general purpose comp, great for comp on background/ambience, not crazy about using on lead sounds, but tons of features
C1-L1; another packed with features, has a similar quality to the FET sound but with a little more warmth, it's another nice comp, feels nice on mid range and lead sounds

It's ok to know about the types of compressors before choosing one. If you already don't. Because you can hear great stuff about RE-2A for example, but no matter how much you try to grab those sharp transients, you won't be able to, with this device.

McDSP MooTube for any compression and Reason Mixer for side-chaining. Yup, that's it

Not sure if you're looking for "traditional" compressors only, but if not then have a look at those three:

Really? AFAIU it is some kind of dynamic EQ based on a specific frequency band. So in the end its some kind of multiband compressor or dynamic EQ. What makes it so special?WarStar wrote: β07 Jun 2019DQ is an awesome REantic604 wrote: β06 Jun 2019Not sure if you're looking for "traditional" compressors only, but if not then have a look at those three:

Reason12, Win10
Give Mace one of those VCA dB needles and people would go nuts
As well as some of those mentioned above, I like Red Rock's Multiband Compressor. I find it easy to use compared with other multbands I've tried.
You know that your license gets revoked saying that too often in public.
Great tools for sure, especially Carve shows fast and good results (but is among ugly top5).antic604 wrote: β06 Jun 2019Not sure if you're looking for "traditional" compressors only, but if not then have a look at those three:

My most used compressors are FET and Pulverizer.
Not saying they're special, just different from anything discussed thus far, i.e. replicas of traditional, full-band compressors.
sorry man I was talking about this oneMarco Raaphorst wrote: β07 Jun 2019couldn't find the Cakewalk plugin, checked a couple of years. DM if you have more info. thanks a lot!sleep1979 wrote: β06 Jun 2019
