Couldn't find this mentioned anywhere so I thought I'd throw it out there..

I understand this place needs to have ads to pay for itself, but the decision to put big ads inside people's posts is really annoying and obnoxious.

Could you post a screenshot of that please, I don't think I have seen that yet.
Thx!

Ah, ok. I’ve seen those.
I thought you meant that the ads were inside the posts itself.

From what I remember, I believe this is a compromise to having an ad at the very top of the page, so that there is less scrolling before getting to the first forum post per page.

I'm not talking about the ads in between posts, although we have those too ..

Here's what I mean:

Oh and if that post gets quoted by somebody, the ad comes with it!

I’ve never seen that. What are you viewing the forum on (device and browser)?

[EDIT] Ok I'm seeing it now. Not on that post, but others...

This has now been fixed.

I've simply decided to remove the in-between post ads.

Thanks for reporting!

And just to elaborate on that decision:

We've never set ads to randomly spawn inside posts or whereever they want. The only post-ads we've ever enabled were the one that spawns after the first post of a page and that's it, so I'll attribute this particular issue to clunky javascript.

Sometimes javascript do quirky things, all depending on browser version and the amount of plugins installed in that browser, depending on the HTML-altering changes they do. Especially Google Ads, which do have the ability to take over the entire real-estate of the screen. Therefore I've disabled the in-between posts ad and left the sidebar ad because it's easier to control how the ads spawn in that area.

Haha, right :)

Anyway, no need for adblockers any more!

Yea, thats good. I use AdBlockers most for anoying stuff and protection against hijacking and stuff like that. Sadly i do not have a adblocker on my mobile, so Reasontalk and lots of other sites got regular hijacked...

Thanks admins! Didn't expect anything to come of this. Happy to deal with some ads to keep a free site up, but those was a bit much.

I just was thinking about a Reasontalk Community refill for selling...all can contribute, maybe the best 50 or so patches are voted and sold for a few bugs to cover the costs.

Selling something has come up a few times, and it isn't a bad idea. However my thing with patch competitions is what makes a good patch? Is it something that's big, or just simply something that suits the song. If we end up with a refill full of a bunch of big patches (because those are the ones more likely to impress people) that can't be really be used together then it isn't a good refill IMO.

It is good if it sells ;)
