Apple........ LOL [rant]
The strange thing is that it seems they don't really understand what it is that makes their products great or what HAS made their products great. Reliability and OSX. And the track pads...
They've screwed the student market with price, the pro market with non-configurability and fewer options, and the second hand market by making nothing replacable.
So who's still buying all this shit and why?
I guess not many people.

I buy them because they're well designed, quiet, stable, reliable and secure. They also hold their value better than most equivalent tech, so I typically can get 60-80% return on my investment if I sell them and upgrade. The ecosystem also allows for fantastic interoperability. I've been on the Win/PC side for years, but have zero interest in returning. These days I'd rather focus on my projects than be a perpetual computer nerd anymore.plaamook wrote: ↑06 Jan 2019The strange thing is that it seems they don't really understand what it is that makes their products great or what HAS made their products great. Music is nothing else but wild sounds civilized into time and tune.
The "fall of Apple" narrative is nothing new and has been continually perpetuated for years. What makes this cycle a little different is that all of the tech giants had a massive spike in share price value last year followed by a huge drop (it wasn't just Apple), but this volatility doesn't equate to these companies being doomed, especially not Apple who makes the lion share of mobile device revenue and profit. Wall Street is fickle and only interested in *growth*, which usually runs against Apple because we've already reached peak smartphone. Most people who would've bought an iPhone over the past 10 years, already have, so the number of expansion markets left have shrunk unless they choose to get into the commodity phone business (which they’ve shown no interest in doing). They sold over 200 million premium smartphones last year, but that's never enough for shareholders because they always want MORE. Apple's services business all by itself could be a Fortune 100 company and they could coast for 10 years, doing nothing, on cash reserves alone. All these bloggers, YouTubers and sites declaring the death of Apple are deluding themselves. Apple is one of the most valuable brands in the world and certainly won’t be disappearing anytime soon.

Plenty of us. In my experience the computers are rock solid and they last. OSX is worth it. Things just work and they don't force OS upgrades. They actually nailed it with the new mac minis. The iMac Pro is a beast. They're supposed to be releasing a new Mac Pro this year after doing research observing pro users.

The second video is about (mostly) everything you said above. I tried to share two different p.o.v.tronam wrote: ↑07 Jan 2019The "fall of Apple" narrative is nothing new and has been continually perpetuated for years. That's why I got into them as well. Same same same. And QVProd lists more positive attributes. And yes, if my mac dies I'll be figuring out a way to get a replacement of sorts because I can't face Windows, same with my phone, but they will have to be used because of the prices they're asking. And I'll feel a little nervous because I can't go buy a used mac and trust that anything that goes wrong I can fix it. Nothing's perfect but these things used to be a little more perfect.tronam wrote: ↑07 Jan 2019I buy them because they're well designed, quiet, stable, reliable and secure. This is an unfortunate normal evolution of big giant corporations in all types of industries, not unique to Apple. In the end it's always how deep that corporation's pockets are to fill their political lobbyists. Lawmakers votes. Lobbyists write the laws.
Here is another example:

Universal laws of Nature: Trust Vs Rust. If you don't trust the energy that created you from the start you'll eventually rust away. From dust to dust rust. I hope Apple will understand that, if they step outside of their reality distortion field bubble for a few weeks.

The fact that you can't upgrade storage/ram on the new generation of mbp's, if somewhat crazy business move.
I think they have now done just about everything they can to kill the 2nd hand mbp-market.
Who does this attract?
