The mention of ARM support confirms something I've been thinking about for a while: if Apple goes through with their rumored plan to switch from Intel x86-64 to their own in-house ARM processors in a couple years, rack extensions are going to have a real advantage over other plugin formats there, since Propellerhead will be able to compile them to run natively on the new CPUs with no extra work needed from any RE devs.

Thumps up for that decision. Very forward-looking idea that has the potential to open completely new doors. I hope that this collaboration will last long.
Was I really talking only about you? I said "always negative".
Do you have a lack of imagination too? Proofs?
Are you always making snarky remarks regarding Props business decisions too? Proofs?
I chose to believe it is totally not the case.
There is no way in the world you could recognize yourself there, as if it was your own unique reflection in a distorted mirror in a funhouse.
The triggering is not real, it does not exist.
You are but one among many.
You are welcome to tell me how wrong I am of course, with proofs.
Anyway, congrats to all future builders and entrepreneurs on the RE platform. I can't wait.
Great exciting news to all!

I'm basically hardwired into the studio...:
.. and I love hardware. Really stoked about this news.

Ooooft. Imagine like, a plug-out style hardware synth that runs rack extensions.
"Your next synth, is a thousand synths". Tagline, sorted!
Seriously though how cool would that be? A flexible control surface, lots of knobs, faders, maybe displays, and you can load it up with your favourite rack extensions to play live. Hell I'd get one!

Devices running ELK OS can already run VST2 and VST3 plugins, plus their own native format. So adding REs is only expanding the capabilities, not creating something new.chimp_spanner wrote: ↑09 Jan 2019Ooooft. Imagine like, a plug-out style hardware synth that runs rack extensions.
From reading it seems like the OS targets equipment without fancy displays. It does knob to plug-in mapping. So for REs it'll probably tie into the Remote interface.
One only needs a single example of "positive" to disprove your "always negative" statement. I'm positive of that.bxbrkrz wrote: ↑09 Jan 2019Was I really talking only about you? I said "always negative".

Right from their website - first paragraph:
https://www.mindmusiclabs.com/
Further down the page:Official Support for VST plugins, also written in JUCE
the ELK SDK allows existing VST titles to be simply re-compiled on ELK. Many developers get their titles running on ELK the same day they receive the SDK.

I found this snippet interesting. I assume it may apply to Rack Extensions as well:
ELK plugin host currently doesn’t host the UI part of VST plugins, but you can run the UI in a separate process running on the same CPU (for embedded display) or in another device (e.g. for control with mobile apps). We provide an RPC framework that you can use for connecting the UI to the engine, with functionalities to control the system and the DAW as well.

I understand that part, but I want to know what hardware devices - right now - can run ELK and therefore VST2 and VST3 plug ins?
Maybe I'm having trouble to understand the text, but I seem not to be able to discern that info.
And yes, this might all be fabulous for the future, but what can I do with this info now?

Thanks! I couldn't find any hardware on the Overloud page while quickly scanning through it... And the other two make guitar / bass amps... Ok. I guess that means not necessarily super useful to me right now.

Hmm. I don’t think I’d be interested in a generalized surface, as that’s essentially what we’re already getting when we use something like a Nektar Panorama. What I’m hoping for is a more tailored piece of hardware, with appropriately laid out knobs for a specific synth experience. I don’t love referring to an LED in one location, and then finding the matching unlabelled encoder to use it. And who doesn’t love a large knob for the filter cutoff?chimp_spanner wrote: ↑09 Jan 2019A flexible control surface, lots of knobs, faders, maybe displays, and you can load it up with your favourite rack extensions to play live. But your idea of a Blamsoft device is an awesome one. Expanse and VK-2 are still in my regular use. Maybe somebody like Blamsoft would make new REs that straddle the line between existing REs, and that match the hardware specs?
You're right. Overloud simply emulates actual hardware. That's probably why they're interested in getting their plug-ins on an effect box.

Well, if you're not a touring musician/band/artist or hobbyist that needs to play on stage with hardware, then this probably won't be exciting to you.
I am a touring artist and I find the possibility of bringing some of my favorite racks to hardware very exciting. Even if I could use an iPad instead of a laptop to just have access to some of my finally tuned sound libraries, that would be incredible.
I'm very exciting to see where this goes and I do not quite understand the concern that Reason is getting ported to a refrigerator.

I'm pretty sure everyone was just joking about that. I don't think anyone seriously thought it would be utilized on kitchen appliances or wearables.

Let's not forget Europa by Reason in the browser. I could see a convergence of technology between the browser interface (Europa remote computing) + ARM tech. That way Props could reduce the layers (Windows.OSX, Linux) and have a OS-less (or as small as possible) DAW platform. That way the whole Reason ecosystem could run on a Chrome OS ARM based machine.
A reminder.

The licenses need to be updated every 30 days (my guess). If you have a hardware RE machine, nothing should keep you from touring with it while rent-to-own your REs. Wifi or plug it every month to renew the licenses and you are good to go.
Just my hope it will happen one day.

I think stompbox type REs are a pretty good fit for the platform. You could even design some generic stompbox hardware with about 5-7 rotary encoders, a LCD, and the usual stomp button. This would work for most (guitar) FX type REs. Similarly a generic amp hardware could host the different amps.

I hope this translates into 1:1 hardware of a particular RE, that can also double as a 1:1 MIDI controller of said RE in Reason.
Huh... Interesting thought... I'd think more the other way around, as I'd be surprised if the numbers for you're suggesting would work at all... I thought this would be to use any of your REs freely without the need for your computer...Data_Shrine wrote: ↑09 Jan 2019I hope this translates into 1:1 hardware of a particular RE, that can also double as a 1:1 MIDI controller of said RE in Reason.
