Don't get me wrong, and I used to DESPISE of Apple (still do).. saying "F#&% them and their proprietary sh*z"... . next thing I knew I had an iPod, then an iPhone, then an iMac.

Sure, their stuff looks pretty and runs smooth but Apple is nothing more than an overpriced cult of corporate greed and iSheeple loyalists clamoring over each other to go deeper in debt for the newest shiny toy made by foreign slave labor - that often commits suicide due to employee abuse - at extortion prices while Apple skates by tax-free like so many "American" companies, all while telling us we need to be tolerant loving PC lefty safe-space freedom-haters or else we're the bigots! The pompous hypocrisy is unreal.

ANYWAYS, get a load of this, if you haven't already noticed:

O~N~L~Y $14,000 for the fully loaded computer from almost 2 years ago that didn't even have the best technology when it was made!?! Step right up and get Effed in the A, folks!!! LOL

So to recap: $14k+ tax for an outdated-upon-release computer going on 2 years old which will be completely obsolete in 5 years (or less) when the next iMac comes out, probably for ONLY $30k and when newer software technology makes it blow a fuse.
And Apple wonders why their sales are down charging this much, not to mention up to $1,200 for easily shattered front and back glass phones that don't even fit in your pocket. But hey, don't let me get in the way of your "happiness"...

SIDENOTE: I've leased my last 2 iPhones. Said enough of that bullsh, paid off my 7, had a "Genius" run diags the other night - all good - replacing battery tomorrow morning for $30 at Apple Store, keeping 7 until it dies, saving $480/yr (payments & insurance).
IN YOUR FACE APPLE
Oh and btw, you forgot everything Steve Jobs stood for.

I paid $3,500 for my iMac. It runs perfectly with everything BESIDES REASON (slow graphics issues in Sequencer edit mode since day 1 with this thing) and I never know who's at fault because they blame me and each other. Next time I'm building a Windows SUPERCOMPUTER for that price.

Sick of Apple's attitude as well. Was considering a Windows machine to replace my 10 year old (!!) iMac and dead MBP.
But I don't think at my age w/ failing memory and all that I could learn a new operating system, hell I can barely remember how to use Reason.
But I can still post on this board til that memory circuit burns out... Then you guys are on your own. insha'Allah.

In light of a bit of history just about any computer today is a super computer. For my taste OS X and iOS offer the best user experiences by far. It's good that people can choose the platform most suited for their creativity. What matters is what we do with it. As for the option of building a setup costing insane amounts of money you can do that around an old Atari ST or Amiga as well: Just add a bunch of vintage drum machines and synthesizers, effects and mixing gear. And there is nothing wrong with that either, as long it makes a person happy and creative - while still affording food and being able to pay the bills. There will, in short, never be an ultimate solution that will feel perfect for every individual person.

Wow, he's right. £13,000 for a fully loaded iMac Pro. That's not right. It's def not affordable. Even the people I know that are rolling would laugh at that shit.
Yeah, I'd jump ship at this point but apple is holding osx ransom. Can't face windows. Possibly a hackintosh. Osx and a track pad. That's all I need. Or just hit the used gear but they've cut the legs out of the secon hand market by gluing everything to the motherboard on the macbooks.

I have many old machines and I can say that you can get a real Mac for almost nothing. First generation Mac Pro running 10.7? Still awesome for the latest Reason versions. So expand your views. :)

I love Apple stuff but the prices these days are beyond a joke. So if I wanted to buy a PC for Reason next time around, what would you recommend?

My 2012 iPad is still working fine. Very happy with it. Maybe in 2022 I'll get an iPad Pro.
Apple will move their pro line From x86 to ARM CPUs (what's inside their iPad Pro) eventually. They moved from PowerPC to Intel in the past and I expect them to do the same since their chip is so powerful. It would not be too far-fetched to imagine they already have a fully functioning OS XI running their main apps in their lab already.
Don't be mad at Apple for their 'culture'. Their '1984' Macintosh commercial was very explicit back then (Us Vs Them).
Apple is a phone making company.
Making computers is not their primary objective anymore.
Enjoy your Apple watch (the most sold watch in the world).
Buy whatever that makes you happy first. Who cares about people who can't afford Apple products amirite? :geek:

Not a rant.

If you have a fully functioning Apple computer now I would suggest to build your PC. The PC building is part of the experience. Unless you want to own a PC laptop of course, then...

The iMac Pro is a very specific machine targeted at a very specific audience and as such is not at all aimed at 99% of computer users. It's certainly not aimed an anyone here. There's plenty of computers costing more, so this isn't even at the high end of what you CAN spend if money is no object. Not sure how it's relevant - Apple is criticized for not servicing the high end pro market, then criticized for providing the asked for solutions. If this iMac isn't selling, we'll see it disappear quickly enough, period.

BTW, this topic has been covered to death IMO, and the cost comparisons have been demonstrated showing this pricing is not out of line with the industry. Here's just one of the many articles covering this subject from 2017:
https://appleinsider.com/articles/17/06 ... r-features

Since this machine is not targeting folks like us, it's kind of disingenuous to post it here. It's like posting a $200,000 car in an economy car thread IMO and making similar suggestions. There's a market for $200,000 cars, and there's a market for $13,000 computers - both are INCREDIBLY small and neither are the best choice for folks needing to get from point A to point B economically. And that's not what they are designed for!

You can also build your own modular synth to save cash. Some folks can, some can't, and some just don't want the "experience" of building and prefer the experience of making music. I support all options as it allows the most folks to participate! Having said that, I'll not be building my own modules… ;)

I've actually considered doing that since my older brother can do the hardware end (a 500 series Leveler is not out of the question).

But I don't have the skills or patience to build my own computer or modular synth, though each is entirely possible to do for those who are so inclined. I have many friends who do both, which may be why I know I'm not well suited to either! ;)

There is nothing wrong buying a mac mini or building your own PC, or own both. It does not matter in the end, as long as the choice makes one happy.

Blown out of proportion for sure. Complaints that a completely spec'ed out all in one computer with 18 cores made for 8K video editing is insanely expensive is a bit crazy. A PC equivalent would be in the same the same price range. In either case. I just bought a 2018 Mac Mini and it works great! Haven't had a single DSP issue even with VSTs.

Jobs? Wasn't he a Buddhist? If so I won't meet him (and throw my money at him) neither in Heaven nor Hell as Buddhists do not believe in the concept.

Sure but I meant that the Mac is more in line with that since it has an outstanding OS and a completely silent & awesome cabinet. We had fun building PCs in 1995-1998. ;)

The PC is an amazing anti class warfare tool as it is cheap to get one, and you don't have to use Windows either. It can grow along with your wallet. PC towers are not glued together, so it is better for the environment as you can upgrade the parts needed. No need to throw away the whole machine when a new outstanding OS comes up, making your machine obsolete and slow.
Apple are outstanding machines for the people who can afford them. Good for them. Free market, free spirit.
I love Apple.
I love Tim Cook.
I love Foxconn and their safety nets.

Well my computer budget has certainly been low. I buy or get used stuff. (Currently iMac G3, G4 Mdd, 2x PM G5, MacPro Gen 1, Mini 2011, iPad 2, Macbook White, newest: iPhone 7, rented.) PCs also but they're soooo uninteresting. Most vintage: Atari 1040. ;) Loving vintage macs too but the ones I find in ads are either too expensive or in too ugly condition after all years (yellow by smoke etc). A mint SE/30 is my new computer dream for 2019-2020. :D
