First, it's not me. But let me begin by describing my limitations:

I've played a Fender Stratocaster since 1973. I'm self-taught, and my real forte is lead guitar solos, often created at the moment out of thin air from how inspired I get by the rest of the song, like a car driving down a road with beautiful scenery that makes you want to sing. I'm not terrific at lots of chords, but I accept that this is what I am – mostly an improvisational lead guitarist. I rarely play covers except for the obligatory "Stairway to Heaven"! Occasionally, I have a few moments of greatness during inspired leads, and the rest of the time is searching or building that "road" in Reason to play along to.

Who I discovered:

I feel absolutely HUMBLED by this 19 year old french gal named Tina Setkic (aka Tina S) who specializes in difficult guitar solos. from rock to classical music. Orianthi is one female guitarist she admires and what got her into guitar. I never heard of Tina S until I just ran across it on YouTube (YouTube's Google A.I. knows EVERYTHING about you and what videos to serve you, LOL!).

Check out these two outstanding songs she did. The first one is an amazing high-speed classical number, and the second is a Steve Vai song:

Ludwig van Beethoven - Moonlight Sonata ( 3rd Movement ) Tina S Cover

For The Love Of God - Steve Vai - Cover by Tina S

Color me blown away. Guess I'll put down my guitar and mop up now... :D

Yea under her right leg. The video take is always different from the audio in those videos though.

I don't know what you're seeing, but the video and audio are in perfect sync. No way they are two different takes.

This would suggest she's not good enough to play along with a previous recording! ;)

I don't think that in cases like this there's any way to tell. I can say that there are probably more cases where the video is synced to pre-existing audio than not. The ones that are obviously live are typically because of the room sound that's also recorded (and usually have the musician talking before or after), and direct instruments played to click or drum machine require phones or in-ears to be perfectly in sync (and I don't see either in this video).

In the end I couldn't say one way or the other, but this guitarist appears to be good enough in my eyes to have used either approach and not have anyone be able to tell the difference!

That was fun watching from her first video, which was impressive on it's own - didn't realize where it was going to end up and glad I kept watching. The transition from acoustic to electric was impressive too.

As impressive as her technique is (and certainly not being dismissive on any level), I have to wonder if she can improvise and jam, or is she limited to learning/playing other guitarist's solos?

Interesting you should wonder about her ability to improvise, because I just watched a video by Fil from Wings of Pegasus (who reacts to many different guitar players on his channel), and last week he reviewed Tina S: near the end, he mentions that Tina S has not released a video on YouTube for 2 years, now, and he thought that she might be practicing her next song! He said it would be great if she's now working on her own material:

Regarding the Beethoven classic, Fil said he got as far as about the first 26 seconds into learning the song himself, and said what few people realize is the incredible amount of practice it took Tina S to learn that song to perfection. He estimates she has put in a phenomenal amount of time practicing since she was 6 years old, and noted that starting young is a clear advantage.

Let's hope she is working on her own stuff now. She definitely has the skill set and is not a one trick pony. Whether or not she can improvise or create her own works, time will tell.

BTW, I watched a video of Tina and Dr Viossy playing the Moonlight Sonata on split screen and left/right channels in perfect sync with each other. Wasn't sure if he really jammed with her, but at least there is one other person I've now seen that can play as well as she does!
