Reason dreaming...
Imagine I had two million dollars.
I get on a plane and head for Sweden, then I locate Propellerhead Secret Headquarters.
I arrive and announce I am a Reason user and maybe they have seen me on the forums.
All goes swimmingly and I am invited to a tour of the offices.
I'm hoping this is my chance to tell them how to run their company, but nope, it's just a tour.
Then I remember my two million dollar bank account.
So I request and set up a meeting with Ernst the big boss.
He agrees and we sit down, and then I explain my proposition:
I will give you (Propellerhead) one million dollars, on the condition that video support is implemented in Reason by version 12.
I also want to be a part of the team creating the feature.
What do you think his response would be?!?!?!?!?
and / or
If you had the same two million dollars and wanted to do something with Reason, what would your proposition be?

My proposition would be to have Propellerhead hire five programmers at $100k per year for four years to accelerate the core product Reason.

Their earnings last year was about 2.5 million USD. They can hire more programmers if they want...

Where’d you get that info from? Is that net or gross profit, lol? Either way I don’t think more programmers would hurt.Boombastix wrote: ↑08 Oct 2018Their earnings last year was about 2.5 million USD. Net. But they had a strike of loss years before that. Looks like VST brought back profits. Though their board has an average age around 60. They probably should consider more input from users and someone slightly younger too.

Hate to be “that guy”, but if I had a net of $2 million USD, I most certainly wouldn’t give half of my net worth away on a feature request. Invest it properly!
...and then offer $1 million USD for said feature request once my nest egg grew to be worth 100 times my original $2 million.

What's the going rate these days? I wasn't sure what it would take to hire a decent developer and pay them well to retain them for a couple years.
If you want to hire them as consultants then probably 250 to 300k.MannequinRaces wrote: ↑09 Oct 2018What's the going rate these days? I wasn't sure what it would take to hire a decent developer and pay them well to retain them for a couple years.
If employed, 100k is a good salary but as an employer you aldo need to pay tax, social costs, office space etc bringing the cost up to around 150-180k even then.

I think video support will come. I think 60% of requested features will come but just not quickly enough. Video Support? Reason 12 or 13.

Good question. I've considered this myself in the past. I imagined coming into a large sum of money, in the order of quite a lot of millions, and making a sizable investment into Propellerhead. My idea was that the funds be used to contract extra staff to work on the RE SDK. The idea being to speed up development of the platform. Unfortunately I fear the opportunity for such an investment may have passed where Rack Extensions are concerned.
Not so sure what I'd like to invest in now. I guess more development staff so development of Reason can be accelerated in general. Beyond that I guess it would be helping with additional resources to work on specific feature requests wherever viable. I'd like to see Reason have the sort of audio file mapping that Ableton Live or Magix Acid has so audio can be warped to tempo. But now we're just getting into specific feature requests. I'd like to see 'Reason Compact' actually become Reason Compact. That would be nice.

Sometimes, when SW code gets old it has become spaghetti code and full of obsolete code made by coders who are no longer with the company. Companies simply have to do a complete rewrite so they can move forward. Swedes often know about the company Facit and it instills fear of becoming obsolete. I at least hope we get proper VST function soon including Midi out..

Are you Swedish and in the industry? I am not sure what the difference is between software programmer, software developer, and software engineer. The average starting pay for a programmer in the US is around $35-000-$55,000 USD, and we have some of the highest costs of living in the entire freaking world!
For programmers, Ubisoft, Sony Mobile, and Stockholm University average $32,000 USD/year to $51,000 USD/year according to Glassdoor:

Yeah I was thinking $100k would have been a competitive wage.

Master of Science engineers in Sweden are actually paid some of the lowest comparable wages in the Western world.
