It is because Reason is simply behind the other DAWs. Instead of doing all these missing features (they had years and years of time to do these), all they keep doing, is adding really old samples and putting them in a sampler and then selling them "biggest update ever". Doing pointless RE's, or they keep spamming you with hundreds of emails, instead of doing something useful for the core program.
I really like Reason, and I really wanted to love it, but I have lost my faith on this company after being only year and half of their customer. I don't understand their priorities at all or aggressive email spamming. They want new customers, but they don't do anything to get them, or keep them. People don't need music box or kalimba sounds or new synths, what they need is features to do music. If you need synths and sounds, there is open VST world for that. Or the RE developers. Sometimes I wonder that do the developers actually use their program to do the music.
I remember once I bought Zynewave Podium. I liked it and asked if the developer could add one small thing. That one small thing was able to select, move, add and delete notes with one tool so I don't have to change the tool all the time. It already had 3/4 of those, so he only needed to add one thing to make it perfect. He refused. He didn't like the idea. Right. Now the Podium is pretty much dead.
There is a similar story in FL side too. I have owned it almost 10 years now. Used to love it, but developer (GOL) arrogant attitude made me and many, many others to change the DAW.
In Reason side. Personally, have requested features, mainly two simple things. Biggest issue is automatically returning playing cursor - few lines of code, could be done in few hours. Not yet seen it after 1.5 years. And what I have read, it has been requested many, many times over the years(!). Doesn't look good at all.
Midi chase, don't see it coming either.
Everything is so small in Reason. Can't zoom close enough. Hard to do timewarping or anything when you cant zoom or see what you do. All the GUI updates would require tons of work, overal overhault to Vector graphics. A lot of work. So many small simple things are still missing..
So, I sold my Reason 10 license away. Again. That was third time. I like Reason that much that I have bought and sold the full Reason 10 license three times, but I simply can't working on it. It miss too much features. It is nice to play around, get the idea flow but when it comes to build the whole song, it is nightmare.
I still keep looking here and waiting to see new updates. Like today. It was nice to see that Mattias is reading this thread and have collected all the ideas. That is long list and I don't expect to see them all in Reason 11, but if they add even 30-40% to Reason 11, that is a good start. Or even some to Reason 10.5.
I won't buy Reason again, until I see at least these:
-Automatically returning playing cursor
-Midichase
-Updated "Vector" graphics, endless zoom like Live has with 60fps GUI refresh rate.
-Better automation. Perhaps similar to FL which have best automation. Two points and tension line between to those to adjust the curve. It would be also nice to see to curve value in pop up window or somewhere.
All other small things are not so vital yet. And yes, this is just my opinion. I also have a feeling that I don't see these ever in Reason
