I keep trying to work on a song in reason 10 and it'll play about 20 seconds then i get a message saying my computer is to slow. I've checked the required specs to run the software and i meet them so i'm not really sure why i keep getting the error message. Heres the required specs..
Windows:
Fast, stable internet connection for installation and registration required!
Intel or AMD multi-core processor
4 GB RAM (8 GB or more recommended for large ReFills or Rack Extensions)
4 GB free system disk space required, plus 8 GB for optional content. Additionally, the program may use up to 20 GB scratch disk space
Windows 7 or later (64-bit)
Monitor with at least 1280 x 768 resolution
Audio Interface with ASIO driver
MIDI interface and a MIDI keyboard recommended
and my computer specs..
Windows 7 Home Premium
Processor: Intel Pentium G620
Installed memory (RAM): 8.00 GB
System type: 64-bit Operating System
Audio Interface: Tascam US-1641 (uses ASIO Driver)
Monitor Resolution: 1366 x 768
Free Disk Space: 457GB
computer is to slow to play the song
that is the minimum spec, you are looking at, but if the song you are playing has many tracks and each track has a lot of devices, you need a computer that can handle all the devices, so the song simply has too much in it for your computer to play it.
Maybe post a list of the synths and effects you use, e.g.:
3 Europa
2 Grain
8 Thor
22 Subtractor
5 The Echo
...
so we could get a picture of what's going on in your Reason song.
btw the Intel Pentium G620 was released in 2011, that's a pretty long time ago

That's a pretty ancient CPU, but try those steps:
#1 set your CPU usage limit to NONE
#2 make sure you have enabled multi-core processing, experiment with multi-threading on or off
#3 increase the buffer for you audio interface
You'll find those here:
Good luck!

And close the web-broswer and all other apps you don't need.
also the following links could be interesting too for win 7

1. Make sure sample rate is 44100. It is the most CPU efficient.
2. If you are not playing from a keyboard, or not using live monitoring, raise buffer to 1024.
3. It is highly likely the culprit is a VST, RE, or busy Combinator patch. Most Reason stock devices are fairly CPU efficient. Use Bounce to clip function. This is the closest thing to Freeze in Reason and if you mute original sequencer track that is usually enough to free up load.
4. Make sure your PC is optimized for audio. There are YouTube tutorials on this.
5. Make sure soundcard drivers are up to date.
Consider saving up and buying a new PC if nothing else works. Things to look for:
Quad core i7 or better CPU (OR AMD equivalent)
8 gigs of RAM or more
7200 rpm HD (consider SSD if you use alot of samples or audio tracks and your files will load faster).
If going Mac stay away from Macbook Airs, or anything with just a dual core processor.
If going for PC laptop, consider a gaming laptop.
Also research a good audio interface with good drivers as older interfaces might not be supported any longer and might have glitchy drivers or chipset issues with certain mother boards, or CPU brands, or even Operating systems.
I know it is alot but it is part of the trade.
To check our own computers and remove unnesesary CPU load.
