Aha! Were you having the same problems with Reason 10/ Windows 10 which I described?

There is no magic sauce, optimize or be stuck with poor performance.

I have done this with 4 Windows PCs, from win7 to win10. .
Before two of them was more or less as useless as your computer seems to be MrFigg.
All my PCs have worked like a charm after the optimization

I actually thought I already wrote that I was optimizing using all the advice here. I know there’s no magic sauce. Maybe my pc is useless...I don’t know. I’m glad all your computers work fine. Thanks for the input.

Then I assume you have something that is faulty in your PC.

Possibly. As I said I’m going to do the stuff in the video you posted when I get back from work so we’ll see if it helps. I’m hopeful.

Did you say you ran a stress test benchmark on your CPU to see if it was performing according to spec? Sometimes Intel CPUs can be a lottery.

I didn’t know that. No, I just checked the benchmark for my CPU on the site recommended by Propellerheads. Drloop mentioned a demo song which I also wasn’t aware of which I’m going to try playing when I get home to see how my machine handles it.

The first thing i would look into would be the soundcard, and trying another one.

Even try the internal audio with Asio4ALL sometimes thats better performance than a usb interface.

I’m using Balance. I’ve also tried my kb37 and it’s just the same.

All of a sudden and as if by magic I’ve got 10 Europas, 2 abl3s, 2 kongs with players and a Grain on 256 sample rate with only a tiny, tiny amount of crackling when I scroll. 10 Europas in 64 bit rate. Strange but cool. I’m not complaining. Thanks all sincerely for the help. (And that was without touching the BIOS).

Maybe it was fixed by one of the automatic Windows updates

Its not a bad idea to look at the system resources when things go slow. An update or virus scan can kill a PC

Let's call it the magic workaround. It confirms the universe is conspiring to make us happy with Reason. OK, back to earth. Sorry if it is obvious, but you should create a System Restore point of your OS now that everything works as you want.

Or just let the system do it's shit for a while after an update / new install. Maybe it's the same effect that causes the iOS uses to complain about high battery use after pretty much every update - because the system is rescanning it's databases etc.

nobody has mentioned core count here, which is the most important question to ask. does the new i5 have an identical amount of cores to the old i5?

Yeah. 4. But that said everything is working great now :):):) so might just have been some update crap.

Thanks for the input. I tested it, purchased it and replaced my CCleaner with this tool. It largely reduces the time to do my weekly maintenance. As with all the tools I know, the Restore doesn't work due to Windows Defender. But there is a workaround that works for me. Turn Off Windows Defender Temporarily, restore, turn on (will be done automatically anyway).

Naaaaa, that was due to Apple throttling the CPU in iPhones when the batteries were getting of a "certain age". As well as Apple's traditionally poor performance optimization for older hardware (read: planned obsolescence of older iPhones/iPads to make the new hardware more attractive). :puf_wink:
