Do you really think he's mad? I mean, he played in a financially successful band. As anyone knows who works in the business pretty much ALL of those people are showmen, they play a role to some extent, they're used to that environment where you have the audience, the show etc. So.. I didn't (and don't plan to) listen closely to what he says but maybe someone who did can give his impression on that? :)

Not mad but being fed false information can lead to madness. A mind is a terrible thing to waste so might as well manipulate one is what I meant.

I guess too much attention can make somewhat "mad" and conspiracy theorists seem to have pretty die-hard fan bases for a long time - longer than the average band. The Alien choice is quite funny though because that whole thing seems to be less and less popular since theres smart phones.

Smart phones have cameras. We see way more UFO videos now than ever before. We see people (ex US president, doctors, police officers, airline pilots, US astronauts, etc) openly talking about their experience. It is not a taboo anymore.
If you don't have real videos from something strange, no problem!. You can fake it (Adobe After FX, Davinci Resolve, etc) for relatively cheap.
Just for fun do a search for "ufo" on youtube. Massive amount of views, even for very obvious fakes. Fakenews, old media are pushing people to unplug. The organized religions are losing a lot of people, but people still want to believe in something. Anything.
If Tom is a believer, and had a need for new cash, and some gov officials had a reason to dupe massive a mount of people, he would be the perfect vector of deception and duplicity.

Oh, sorry. I thought it was generally accepted that these stories were deliberately spread by the US government. Didn‘t know theres still believers out there that can articulate themselves properly. But well, it would be cool wouldn‘t it? Our new Pleiadean (or whatever they call them) president will certainly be more exciting than Trump xD

Being an integral part of the western civilization's consciousness I thought exactly that: most of the stories were pushed by the US government and its allies in Europe. I thought 1947 was the earliest case of a flying saucer (Kenneth Arnold), during and after WWII. Why would they (top secret weapon developers) argue against some people believing in Aliens when they provide the perfect cover for their very secret programs? The stealth bombers we saw during the Gulf war were being tested at least 20 years (Skunk Works) before appearing on CNN for the first time: triangular shapes, do not look like planes, barely make a sound (I think? Never been near one). Case closed then?

Not every observation is about a F-117 Nighthawk, swamp gas or a weather balloon.

Case closed, yes, if you believe your Culture and your History are the (superior) ones that count on the planet, more than the others. You need to be motivated to read, listen, compare and contrast what you "know", with what the others believe.
You can, for example, learn about the Dogon people and their belief system, the Hopi Indian legends, the Vimanas (Ancient India), and countless other cultures around the world. Stories told throughout generations before the birth of the USA and Trump, or a working sewer system in any town in Early Modern Europe, thousand of years after the Roman Empire (that has a great waste management system).

There is a world beyond Macron, Merkel, Putin, Trump, SK, NK, Israel, etc. A world beyond the Mind of a Conquistador. ;)

What I agree on is that from camera recordings, files and peoples reports it's very hard to make out the actual truth - heck, it's even hard to make it out when you witness stuff. But I also think that the truth is most of the time stranger that one would have generally thought, especially in politically loaded topics.

Edit: And btw, I am totally into UFO stories, Erich von Däniken is a german (speaking) guy :) I carefully listen to the most outrageous stuff if just to test out what seems possible in my mind. Aliens in vehicles never made that mark.

Yes I agree 100% Love anything UFO, stories, etc.

BUT...

The major problem I have with the UFO crowd is (And I blame Erich, among others, for this) they always push the narrative that nothing you see (now and in the past) was made by humans. "We are too weak, too stupid. We need the help from an Alien overlord to help us walk, talk, make music, build pyramids, lift 1000 ton blocks". Then the next thing they always say is: "They will give us their technology to help us become better on the path to enlightenment ..." Really? Why? Why can't we become like them eventually, even if it'll take us a thousand years an a couple of atomic wars? OUR mistakes. OUR evolution. OUR technology. Some people love to be slaves. Some people want to be intergalactic slaves. Read the damn fine print people! I see the UFO crowd dancing looking at things they don't understand. People have witnessed strange things up in the sky for the longest time (1000s of years or more). None of the lights/UFOs/Bigfoot creatures/chupacabras... ever helped to stop wars, genocides, cured the black plague. They are just watching.

Tom belongs to the Erich's crowd. The false prophet believers, the "let's make a deal with the Overlord" crowd, the "flying saucer reverse engineering and copy" crowd.

The "I don't believe in the human spirit, past and future" crowd.

Oh yeah, this I agree 10000% on. I remember back in school we had this discussion in philosophy class and I said "Dude, those were humans, they weren't dumb, they just didn't have the maths etc. yet (maybe they even did!) - they could have very well built this stuff in a way we didn't think of! Maybe they used a wood crane or something." Then the question came back "Yeah but where are the cranes? Why do we only find the buildings?" - So I asked him where the crane is that built the school we sit in and if he thinks if that thing from the 60s would still exist anywhere at all :)

Edit: And yeah, the "galactic zoo" theory doesn't sound too outrageous for me. Or we're simply still bacteria in the grand scheme of things - dirt in a crust unable to see beyond the crust :)

I would believe the UFO description from witnesses that make zero sense from a human perspective, first. Why? Because if what they see is too close to a human experience, then most likely the alien evolution was very close to ours, it just started earlier. It means they have bad politicians, hooligans and fast food back home too.

Maybe Gravity is not a constant. Maybe what is a 1000 ton now was 1/3 its mass in the past. Maybe is was no big deal to be a 200 ton dinosaur humping a 200 ton female, on top of a huge swamp, not worrying about being swallowed by the mud. Lots of things make little sense now, but if a few variables change, things become less impossible, if we dare to think the impossible, away from a belief system (religious or "scientific")

Yeah, I still have seen (or read of) only a handful of really strange aliens in fiction as well, most are humanoids or insectoids. One I remember was a silicon based life form that basically just created ever larger sand pyramids during its lifetime :) Making a 5D movie would be kinda annoying though I suppose :D

When I saw the apple in the Sagan video it reminded me of a lot of UFO descriptions: one light, then the light splits into multiple lights, etc. Are we trapped in a flat universe?

It is close to impossible to come up with genuine new ideas in sci fi. Just like music. I mean we could create something with the dynamic of a supernova as a kick drum, but... If it is too bizarre, or close to a cloud of noise, maybe Aliens will love it, but no one will buy your book, album, or have the capacity to play it back or understand it on Earth.

You could get help with your creativity, going beyond the expected, somehow... But we are still limited to describe something, even a dream, with what we have as a reference point, tools from past knowledge, and words defined in a dictionary.

Cool article.

Now... What if:
Dark matter, dark energy don't exist. Black holes don't exist. Neutron stars don't exist. There is no such thing as a "spooky action at a distance" because Quantum entanglement between 2 particles across the cosmos is not a mystery, because "Time" don't exist. Gravity? The theory of the creation of our solar system is a myth.

Brrr.. I hate that theory, in every video I stumble every three minutes over plain logic (mostly hidden in things he DOESN'T say) - maybe I'm just so completely not getting it that everything doesn't make sense, maybe it does only make sense if you think like him, who knows - either way it's of no concern to me, out of my event horizon ;)

I'm very much with you on things not really existing in a way - poetically put like it's an illusion - practically put maybe somehow consciousness generates the illusion of space/being out of it's interaction with time/becoming.

5 years. I am still fascinated by the subject. The electric universe physicians are not into Aliens or infinite parallel worlds.

One weekend, with love ones and hot chocolate enjoy their playlists. No rush.
I rejected everything and I am not sure what to believe, even after 5 years. But to stay on point regarding fresh ideas for science and science fiction, the electric universe is, imho, the most fascinating new concept in the past 150 years. it never went away, but was beautifully crafted to stay hidden and rejected, until the power of youtube.

No theory is ever lost - the ether returned in the form of the higgs field, Einsteins "greatest blunder" returned as the final puzzle piece for proving his own theory, the idea that "spells" (information) can be put onto things which then cause "magic" (things to happen later) without direct correlation isn't called magic anymore.

I wonder if they'll eventually find out if the speed of light, gravity and other constants of the universe were all born as is with the universe, or changed, expanded with it instead.
Maybe it is not called magic but we still need to believe in one big miracle: out of nothingness the universe was born. What is "nothingness" anyway?
