Curious about how people tend to spend time making music, ...

I get up real early to work on it before work almost every day. I could sleep instead.. but that's no fun. Some days after work too but I have to share my evening time with household duties. And it probably doesn't hurt to talk to my family sometimes.

If there wasnt that stupid thing called real life, i would defenetly spend more time on making music. But i need a bit of time to get the flow and no disturbance if I have it... If the basic song is done i can tweak it a little bit here and there over time. I also disable the freaking phone when i am making music.

In between, i try and experiment and explore...

You've no option for maniacal grinding and forum posts are counter-productive.

3 days x 12 hrs

Of course this isn't just actively banging away at music like a monkey for twelve hours a day but also critically listening for mixing and arrangement as I move along. I work on music more than my part time paying job. That's the way I like it which is why I chose a minimalistic lifestyle. I'm gonna have to cut beer out of my budget next month to release my album.

If p can go a month without beer (alcool) I'll do the same (I'll only be able to simulate but I will) and release all of my best patches as combis.

That is also part of my minimalistic lifestyle in sacrifice for music. Can't count how many times my girlfriend has walked into the room to cop a feel or flash her breasts while I'm trying to focus. Once a week keeps the relationship going though I guess.

I honestly don't think I will go a month without drinking and it shouldn't be too difficult to sneak a cheap drink in periodically. All bets are off if I get a referral bonus for a new hire employee. I do encourage any path to enlightenment and sobriety though.

I can't really answer this one because I think it's all about what phase i;m in on a project.
There's the experimentation phase which could be anything from the odd hour to long sessions.
There's the fleshing out phase which is a bit more focused and so teds towards longer sessions but less often
Then there's the album phase which is lots of longs sessions trying to finish ideas and bring things all together.

2hrs to 10hrs per day, so there’s no option in this poll for me :) My average is more like 4-6hrs daily, 6 days per week. Ears need to rest to function well. Occasionaly, an all nighter is required when deadlines get stretched. Audio and music are my life. I certainly haven’t always been like this, it has taken many, many years of working for other companies to now be doing audio for a living since 2013 and working for myself.

If you really, really want something; never give up.

It's (boredom) my biggest trigger. Everything (especially music) just becomes more interesting after a few.

Don't say trigger. It makes it sound so negative...

My apologies ;) But I'm having to re-evaluate my life choices at the minute.

Hmm...
OK. Good luck.
Honestly I always think I love beer so much I must not over do it. I'd hate to develope a bad relationship to the stuff. So far so good.

The tricky thing about booze is the elusive euphoria during the first couple drinks but then it's all downhill after that which makes drinking counterintuitive to creative endeavors. Do you enjoy any caffeinated drinks? That would be so much better for keeping momentum and interest. That said, I pulled off a twelve hour session without any booze towards the end yesterday and that was with vodka in the freezer and beers in the fridge. :D Back in the lab at 06:30AM which will be the start of a long one today.

Funny should mention caffeine. I have a huge tolerance for booze but none for caffeine. If I have a decent cup of coffee, I have zero chance of sleeping for at least 12th which pretty much means it's a morning only thing.

Anyway, enough of my weaknesses ;) time to get my act together and find my music mojo again.

The trick with booze is to recognise that the golden glow of the first 2-3 pints is basically better than most things barring great sex and enlightenment. The only things that separates functioning and non functioning is that functioning drinkers see that you need to do things in life to creat things to celebrate with Beer. Non functioning want to go directly to the teat.

You basically need to offer things to the Beer God or he kicks your ass in!

I guess we all have different physiologies and brain chemistries. I get that golden glow after 3 to 5 pints these days but if i get it down fast enough i get a real dopamine release that puts me in a euphoric state after 12+ pints worth. I tend to need at least some spirits to get me there these days and if i go to the well even every other day there's less chance that release will be significant.

Ymmv and i wholly recommend only drinking in small amounts. It has totally ruled my life. I love the teat.
