Binged on Marvel's Defenders this weekend. Best part: watching in Hells Kitchen, and seeing the building across the street featured in the final episode. And also finally knowing why they had that building all lit up and police cars everywhere all night (keeping me up) last winter!!! Knew it was a film location (got a notice from our building), but no one knew what the shoot was for! Always fun watching these series (Luke Cage/Jessica Jones/Daredevil/Iron Fist) and recognizing the locations used, but in this case it was crazy because we were looking out the window at the same building that was on screen!!!
;)
Great series if you're a fan, btw.
Too funny - I just binge watched Defenders as well - last night/today! I enjoyed it, though admittedly I never watched Iron Fist. I thought Daredevil season 1 & 2 and Luke Cage were good, but I probably enjoyed Jessica Jones the best. I don't know if I'll watch Iron Fist now that I've seen Defenders (and I hear it's the weakest of the series anyway).

I'll say this, I was a little surprised at the (very) ending of Defenders... but not too surprised. :D

Humans... very closely. So many cliff hangers it''s like the worst script writers were thrown together on an island and demanded to create something almost plausible .

GoT still isn't that lean, but it's the shock of the rate it's now decided to move at that has caused people to be somewhat confused, given how used we all are to its methodical pace of character travel. I think the idea is there are still days and weeks between a lot of these scenes where the characters are appearing in consecutive locales, but without any diagetic references to time at all, it does look like they're all using teleporters. (Probably the ones from Blake's 7).
.

I've let a lot go this season - no big deal. Characters dying off, characters all in the same spot, less plot lines - but that 6th episode just f**king stretched credulity...

(not that any show with dragons, and dead army walkers and 3 eyed seers should even have any in the first place, but still...)

Hahah, yeah - they've certainly been stretching the realm of possibility with distances traveled this season, but that last episode actually adds up if you take into consideration how long it would take for the ice to freeze in order to support that Wight Army:

It's a show with dragons in it :) Nothing has to make sense at that point.

Can I put a vote in for Mindhunter?

There's some good stuff on Netflix, especially the brilliant BoJack, even the love-or-hate Orange. But with Netflix, even with its good shows I'm always kinda relieved to get to the end of a season.

And then came Mindhunter.

Having planned to do one episode a night, the first episode was interesting enough to warrant continuing while not being especially compelling, but having nicely set the scene, watching episode 2 the next day.... Woah, Nellie!

Suffice to say, I wrapped up the remaining 9 episodes over two evenings, and I could've watched another 10 hours of it quite happily (in the broadest sense one can ever be happy watching a show about the investigation of serial killers :puf_wink: ) today.

I was a bit narked at first by David Fincher's use of a 21:9 scope ratio in a TV show, however I've decided I'll give it that curious decision a pass if I rationalise and consider it as a stylistic companion to his own Zodiac movie. There are a couple of rather played out emotional beats, Shepard's will-he-won't-he stuff in episodes 1 and 2, and a thing I won't spoil near the end that made a couple of characters a bit too dumb for my liking, but overall, a cracking run and season 2 of this one needs to be online extra pronto.

It reminds me a lot of early Cracker, or recent Line of Duty. It's a show not afraid to sit around for extended scenes of people talking to each other about disturbing things. There's no on-screen violence, just visceral verbal descriptions, and glimpses of crime-scene photos (which is something I hope they stick to, as it makes a nice change from pure torture porn; but it's sort-of implied they won't stick with it because of ongoing clips throughout the series of a particular psychopath's preparations).

Also, Mr Robot is back on Amazon Prime. I like it. I don't understand it. But I like it.

Mindhunter: Watching this myself its really good. The people who play the Killers they are interviewing are amazing actors. Holden though terribly slow at times with his scenes. He is supposed to be a genius but he looks like the gog's don't go around at full pace at times very weird too something not right in the characters head or is it just the product of him being in that space, dunno - hope his character gets a kick up the arse. That sound that comes out of his mouth is annoying wish he would be more aggressive at times luckily the partner is that type he's really good, think he is a voice actor in a few games heard him before anyway. Spoiler :: They keep showing scenes with an unknown too which is great but kind of feels that maybe the story is about just him at times and the rest of the scenes are back story for getting him.

The starting credits get ruined... Really connects them to the plot of a show though - Historic tape recorder with all nice shiny mechanics and you get discombobulated by the sight of body parts.

Recently saw The Mist (from '07) in the theatre in black and white - Brilliant film made more glorious by black and white They are doing a Stephen King seasons for Halloween in the Local - all the good films. Think they got inspiration for Stranger Things from Stephen King (S02 starts this Friday). There is a series of The Mist on Netflix now have not watched it yet though.

Star-Trek is a joke not at all what I was expecting. Modern twist on the show is ruining its Nature. Gene Roddenberry would be turning in his grave. Passes the time though but not a show stopper. Them Klingons wtf. Wasn't the Klingon language invented by linguists just sounds like they are trying to read off the cards. Very slow and passive although the more aggressive war lord in the current episode is a bit more like it. You need your villains to be villains no?

Oh good lord, STD. Yes, every time a Klingon appears the show grinds to a screeching (quite literally) halt, with the most tedious of longeurs. The "because we can with this budget" make-up of all head-rubberisation affords the actors no facial expression, which might be fine an episode of Doctor Who where the baddie has two lines of diaogue, this doesn't work at all when the poor actors have to carry five minutes of screen time and the entire plot. And the use of ALL CAPS for the subtitles (ok, it's technically small caps, but the effective result is ALL CAPS!) is, as you'd expect with ALL CAPS, hard work to read (at least it's white with a black stroke; if it had been produced by Trailer Park, it'd have been all black with 50% transparency or something).

But then the massive body armour affords the actors no movement, so it's just of two big blocks of rubber and fibreglass shouting motionless at each other for five minutes at an expressionist angle, half hidden in lens flare being produced from a non-existent point of light. Michael is, atm at least, just a really unlikeable character; Saru is an idiot. The tech guy is ok. But really it's only Jason Fucking Isaacs holding the thing together right now. Fortunately, his character is interesting enough I'll stick with it. I mean, it's Jason Fucking Isaacs. He makes everything slightly better ;)

I've never been a big ST person; I've seen plenty of the TOS, and some TNG, and a few DS9, which I did like but was at uni at the time so didn't really get a chance to view it regularly. I only saw a couple of VOY and ENT each before I lost the will to live.

But just this past week, I finished a complete watch of DS9. And while it's certainly a product of its age, there's really only a handful of totally rubbish episodes. I did skip two that were boring me to tears: the Troi/Odo one and another I've already forgotten; I did stick it out through "Profit & Lace" though, purely because of its terrible reputation, and indeed, what the fuck were they thinking?

However, DS9 is, IMO peak Trek. Most of it is at least good, and much of it is excellent. By far it has the most consistent main and recurring cast, both in terms of characters and actors. (TNG has Picard, Data, and Worf but the rest of the cast is pretty awful, Colm Meaney excepted, cos he's so great in DS9). Other than maybe Jake and Nog, there's no real weak link in the regulars. And funnily enough, like with Clone Wars' Ahsoka, as I mentioned on The Last Jedi trailer thread, they managed to take a terrible character and performance in season 1, and turn it into a deep, compelling, brilliant character arc with an equally good performance, by season 6/7.

(Yes, I'm talking about fuckin' Nog!)

Meh.. I'm watching ST: Discovery, and while it's certainly not classic Trek, I'm enjoying it to an extent. That said, check out "The Orville". It's pretty much ST: TNG episodes by blueprint, in both feel, stories, and production - if ST: TNG was done by Family Guy. While it's not awesome, it has a few laughs. The weird part is, I'm able to satisfy my old TNG craving while watching it.

Yeah Jason Isaac' is really quite the character in ST:D hope the plot doesn't stick to the war torn universe and there is a bit of discovering going on. Michael is shite should lock her back up now probably will now the the cats out of the bag meaning the navigator - don't want to give it away (no spoiler tags!). Pretty much a similar character in The Walking Dead. Jason Isaac in The OA was epic!

What pisses me off about std is there seems to be androids and all this crazy tech that has not been in any other Star Trek. Catering to new audiences more so than the integrity of future universe of Star Trek. If you where to get into Trek from watching Discovery you'd be judging it on Discoveries standards. Even with Star Wars they stayed true to the traditions and lore for the tech that was in it. They didn't just make shit up for the sake of flashiness.
It is not too much of an ask for people or things to be the best version of itself!

Um, perhaps open a dialog with the mods and find out why you were reported? With all due respect, spamming this thread with the issue is totally off topic.

Yeah.

Maybe it was reported by mistake? The report icon is right next to the quote icon, after all. I know I've hit "Quote" rather than "Edit" enough times, it's damn easy to hit the wrong one.

Oh I dunno - Black Mirror is superb, and that's mostly a UK-made show. Also, the majority of HBO's Rome as well as Game of Thrones is based out of Europe and the UK. That's some of the best stuff on TV!

Just binge watched the first 6 episodes of Stranger Things 2. It's just as good as the first season, and they did a great job fleshing out the characters more. Hoping to finish 7-9 tomorrow!
