ADVANCED MULTI-ROUTED DSP HYBRID SOUND
SEQUENCING X-3 PERFOMANCE
SYNTHESIZER

I read somewhere, that stuff I worked on was just a static image. Well that's a static image, but the reality is that it's real ( in the virtual world that is) and it works.

This is one of the biggest projects I've taken on, both from a technical and educational stand point.

I hinted at this project a couple of weeks ago...in another project thread.

ETA- of actual release, not decided yet.
Still working on the complex node network.
Certain elements may be changed at any time.

You are looking at a fully functioning multi stacked midi synthesizer, advanced multi-oscillated DSP driven, dual multi-routed 303 gated and arpeggiated performance sequencer with separate dual rhythmic sound processor panel and hybrid sample and synthesis based drum machine. With a complex integrated global DSP system integrating dual 8 mufti-band filtering, flanging, comb filtering, lfo, swing back, amp fx, effects and independent pitch shifting, global chorus, panning control system EQ control, and visual FX oscilloscopes and not counting the independent fx of each device, compressors, independant reverb levels, morphing, automation, and more

In other words it's a f***ing powerful beast and has RE's for breakfast.. :)

I will never complain about how obtuse and unintuitive our medical equipment is ever again. I'm pretty sure the space shuttle had fewer switches and dials than this monster. Your head is a very interesting and complicated place, Scotty. :)

Great. Been hanging for one of these ;)

with all the good in the world but for which sadomasochistic reason to use an 'interface so complex?

At this time, I won't deny that this is one very complex instrument atm to look at, that's because it is actually really advanced and highly creative but can be learned through actual use of the parameters. The screenshot shows currently elements or sections of the interface which are not currently labeled or labeled in such a way to provide an ID name which corresponds to a node element in the structure.

The gui uses a colour code ID system which makes it easier to know what is associated with what. As for hiding active visual sections of each section, this is really quite a more complex issue to solve due in part to the way the node system is constructed and the existing ways Reaktor handles it's panel elements, more to do with the interaction aspects than to get them to function.

In it's current form it's still in the experimental stages, and really a discovery of what works well and what doesn't so much. One of the aims of this project is to make both an easy to use simple system control system on the surface and leaving the advanced more complex functions below for greater experimentation and control.

This instrument uses the full width of a 1080P monitor screen with 10% left for the VST hosts option panel above. No rack width limitations here as with Reason instruments.

Interestingly it's never crashed, only happened when creating an internal feedback loop when connecting up nodes the wrong way. :) The instrument requires a fairly powerful pc/mac however, certain features such as enabling the additional 2 oscillator sound processing engines on X1 ( the blue synth ), will ramp up the CPU load by 30%. It currently consumes around 50% CPU load idle on my Intel I7 920 at 3.3 Ghz. (2009 model).

I'll see if I can get the video screencast software I have working to show it in it's current operation. Just bear in mind that some elements may be changed later on down the track.

Saw the vid, can't make one single knob out and what's being tweaked as it's ultra low quality 360p.. everything is blurred, like it's been smudged out. The one sound being tweaked for minutes over and over, is dreadful anyway.. Reason sounds WAY better than that. And no, it does not demolish any RE, not with that sound demo. Not even close. Go Reaktor! hehe.
"Reasontalk, the reaktor and studio one hub, where Reason and RE's suck!" :s0238: :s0225:

I also gotta love the flip about my comment on static screenshots, when I was clearly talking about Reason related stuff. Tons of us have reaktor and can make or load ensembles. ;)

It is indeed, I only really scratched the surface, of this but wanted to maintain continuity with minor adjustments. I know sound quality is un-effected, so wasn't concerned about image quality, it's 41Mb. Really uploaded it to dispel some myths and give a sonic flavour of it's sound.

I've played more with this than Reason this year, so much fun :D .

Fantastic effort scottym.

There are few feelings better than having created something that took a real effort.

Well done!

yes, it is very impressive, indeed! And the most important thing is that you enjoy it. For me, it would be overkill, I guess. I'm both intimidated and fascinated by these spaceship control looks. Way to go, Scotty!

Thanks :-), I've only really been getting into guts of Reaktor since the end of Feburary / beginning of March this year.

The ensemble is essentially a supercharged and partly re-engineered version of an ensemble called Techno Tribe, a much smaller, simpler and less feature rich ensemble which can be found here. https://www.native-instruments.com/en/c ... show/2841/ first created over 10 years ago.

This provided the foundations for HyperTribe and my learning of Reaktor. Whilst the original core sound generating node network has been kept intact such as the classic 303 sound and parameters associated, the 303 section is sub routed i.e 2 x 8 path ways (including though the global DSP section) combined with complex sound automation and control.  The X1 (monophonic synth) has more and different types of oscillators, extended fx and parameter controls and routing to combine arpeggiation with the 303 which is also playable from the keys different to the original.

The drum machine is extended and but retains the orginal synth based node sound engine and paramaters, but is extended with the addition of extra EQ control, independent button level controls, compressor and reverb, whilst integrating dual arpeggiation for groove effects and combines the addition of (sample triggering- to be extended) routed through the DSP system. With enhanced master/sub control section of parameters. And as you would probably expect, custom knobs and button design and background design...There is still more to add as I mentioned such as blanking panels-and they will look nice, additional custom display X/Y control panels if I can also. The current node network is massive compared to the original ensemble with more I/O controls than a spotty teenager.

There so much to learn, often it was one step forward and two steps back in the beginning because of conflicts with nodes. Single letter inputs with no info, has been kinda confusing, I hate having to read manuals but at times you need to.

I didn't think I'd ever get my head into the guts of the program, it's like climbing a mountain in learning where you never see the tip, if you do, it's along way off.

I've been use to building really complex combinators in the past, that was pretty easy compaired to this , I had to use the same kinda mindset and logic however, so this kinda gave me a basis of a direction to take it whilst trying to understand it and Reaktor itself.

..and yet, I'm not hearing that in your demo. At all.

Sorry

And the UI seems less than optimal, IMHO. Just too busy for my eyes. Anyway, let us know when you have an extensive patch library built.

Thanks, yeah...there is just something I find engaging about interface design that strikes a cord with me. It's like combining art, inventiveness and problem solving all in one and to make stuff functional is the icing on the cake ;)

I look at it as a program for the size of screen it takes, the bonus is that I can make this a multi-layered gui, so it's less complex. :)

The background gui design as with some of my other works takes much influence from shapes and lighting from Tron. Due to limitations in Reaktor with no font control of colour, I had to figure out different techniques to differentiate each instrument section.

:)
