Here's an industrial patch for guitar, using Vermilion (and Creme for 4x12 speakers) and Efektor OD3603 Pro Overdrive. In a song:

(edit note: The Vermilion gain and Volume, and the Efektor Level are too high for most uses, so turn these down for most situations.)

So I'm not the best at designing all my tones but I'm having trouble really capturing a classic sound I've tried to describe in the title of the post. The example below is a bit extreme but a great one. Another example would be the guitar plucks in MJ's Thriller.

Is there a good amount of springverb on the guitar below? I just can't seem to get the sound tight and metallic enough on my strat, which doesn't make it easier I suppose.

Many thanks

Been really excited since I came across this thread a few days ago, (and apologies if I missed it somewhere already):

But when do you all expect to be releasing the Refill with all this magic in it? Very excited!

Here's a stab at it with Vermilion:

I think a lot of the sound in your examples is the guitar players themselves: Very strong fingers and hard precise plucking.

Thanks for the tone! Just curious... what's the story behind the X-Wah combinator? Where does it come from?

Much appreciated.

Me and Giles and Noel put this together a while back out of the need for a wah with Line6 going away. It's in Dropbox somewhere earlier in this thread. I'm waiting for my favorite guitar sound designers, Kuassa, to come out with a Wah rack extension soon.

Heh... apparently I had downloaded X-Wah a few months ago and didn't realize it  Thanks for helping me remember ;)

+1 on a wah from Kuassa, plus any other guitar goodies they see fit to create!

Until waiting for the big refill, here is a nice patch for Creme.
Add your favorite delay and reverb :)

Wow, many thanks! I prob wouldn't have though to dig up the X-Wah in conjunction with this funk strat patch. It really does have that extra metallic punch that accentuates any great technique of play.

I knew someone like you would come through John ; ) and with flying colors as usual.

Incidentally, this is how I think about the alter-ego of Revival these days (especially in songs like this):

I got the Johnny Winter Blues Survival Special with the JBL D120F, and it still has the beer bottle rip and beer stains from when he sat in with us and told some drunken suit to go f*^k himself for requesting "Ballad of the Green Berets" right after we did Highway 61 (25:20 on this video) (RIP Johnny).

Thanks so much for that acoustic guitar patch Dimi with the MP5. I used it with my Strat going direct in (had to lower the high frequency EQ's quite a bit) and then used it again with a Neptune added with +12 on the transpose, and the formant ON for a 12-string acoustic sound. You can use other EQ's if you don't have the MP5. The pretty chord change is B minor to E flat with a major ninth.

Huge news for guitar players in Reason! VST integration coming soon (4 weeks). Recording Reason tracks with Amplitube, Scuffham, etc. right alongside Kuassa tracks is such a wonderful concept. It's like getting a law legalizing polyamory. Dogs and cats sleeping together! (Dr. Peter Venkman, Ghostbusters).

The Reason Essentials for €$69 is going to be one of the best and less expensive VST Host for guitar players.
