Hi there,
Since you did some kind of upgrade a few weeks ago, l've noticed 3 problems:
- On a BlackBerry OS mobile phone, l am always told that the site certificate is expired / invalid, and do l really want to visit the site?
- On a BlackBerry OS mobile phone, l cannot login because once l enter password, l am told that l cannot use the site because the certificate is expired / invalid. I think enabling cookies might help, but l cba.
- On my PC, running Firefox on Linux: When l used to bookmark a page from the forum, and then refresh that page, the ReasonTalk icon would appear as an emblem for that bookmark, quite nice. Since the site upgrade, the "RT" ReasonTalk icon is no longer visible, instead l just get the generic Firefox bookmark icon, which is a tiny grey disc of planet Earth.

I can't say why you get that issue with BlackBerry phones. From both iOS and Android, I've seen no reports of the same. Maybe try and clear your cache and cookies.HepCat wrote:Hi there,

The same kind of goes with the favicon (The small RT logo). It works here as well. What theme are you using here?
Can anyone confirm HepCat's issue?

Less likely but still: perhaps your date/time setting has defaulted for some reason to wrong date which makes the certificate check fail?HepCat wrote:Hi there,

I don't know if this would trigger it, but I was trying to solve my issue (https://www.reasontalk.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=7497097) with being logged out several times a day. Someone suggested it could be because this site serves up the favicon as http within a https connection.
Code: Select all

Hi there. I clear cookies fairly often but anyhow, l have the browser set to not accept cookies and to block popups and this has not changed between before your upgrade and the present day. Strangely, even though my browser is set to reject cookies, clearing the cookies and site history is what renews the site certificate warning screen problem on the phone Perhaps it's a "Site History" or "Other Data" as in "Clear cookies and other data" thing, that causes me to return to the site certificate screen when l clear everything and then a while later check out reasontalk.com again.Kenni wrote: I can't say why you get that issue with BlackBerry phones. I'd call it the default theme (Blue / grey / white), but it's been the same theme as ever.Kenni wrote: The same kind of goes with the favicon (The small RT logo). It works here as well. What theme are you using here?
The problem, at least with the site certificate issue report on the phone, specifically kicked in when you did that site upgrade a few weeks ago. I believe the favicon issue was simultaneous with it, but l'm not sure as l only bookmark when absolutely necessary.
Hi there. Interesting link, but it doesn't apply to the phone l've tested (BBOS10 on the BlackBerry Passport). I should really test my BlackBerry Curve as well, but l don't want the palaver that sometimes occurs when l move the simcard about. You know, the internet not working on the new device. Having to phone tech support. It always gets solved but ... let's see how this pans out, it may be unnecessary.jappe wrote: Less likely but still: perhaps your date/time setting has defaulted for some reason to wrong date which makes the certificate check fail?

Btw the date and time are fine.
Nothing has changed at my end that anybody has mentioned so far, between the time prior to the site upgrade, and now.
Hi, l'm not sure what you mean by "http within a https connection" but my issue is not the fav icon in the Firefox browser tab - that's fine as it is. The issue is the favicon not being present in my list of bookmarks when l make a new bookmark (old bookmarks are fine). As you know, it's useful to have a favicon when you have a substantial list of bookmarks.rcbuse wrote:I don't know if this would trigger it, but I was trying to solve my issue (https://www.reasontalk.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=7497097) with being logged out several times a day. It seems that the source of that page was polluted by your browser cache.
I've enforced a cache-refresh on clients, the link to the favicon has been HTTPS since the update, and should show up correctly for everyone now.

Hi there. As l mentioned, once l allow the site to be displayed, everything is fine because something in my cache remembers the site.
Clearing the cache brings the problem back. I take it you were saying that the cache is the problem? Definitely not!
This isn't a once-off either, l regularly clear cache and the website problem (which *only* affects ReasonTalk.com and *only* since the site maintenance a few weeks ago) is ever present.
Here is the message l get:

Site identity is not verifiable for the following reasons:
* The certificate to identify reasontalk.com has not been verified by a trusted source
Learn more ---> [ ! ] This icon indicates that there are one or more problems with the certificate the site uses to prove its identity. When you view the certificate, the problems are listed. It is not recommended that you continue to the site, but you can choose to do so by adding a site exception. Your BlackBerry will store the exception. You will not see the warning again until you remove the exception.
View Certificate ----> "Certificate Info --> Let's Encrypt Authority X3
--> General: * This certificate is not trusted * This certificate can authenticate a client * Authenticate a server * Sign code * Protect email * Sign a time stamp message * Sign an OCSP message
--> Details: * Subject Common Name: Let's Encrypt Authority X3 * Subject Organisation: Let's Encrypt * Subject String: US * Issuer Common Name: DST Root CA X3 * Issuer Organisation: Digital Signature Trust Co. * Issuer String: Digital Signature Trust Co. * Signature Algorithm: p1-sha256-with-rsa-encryption * Signature Value: [massive hexadecimal string] [THE REST IS SERIALS AND HASHES etc.]
Adding the site exception will open the site and you will not be warned next time you access reasontalk.com. You can delete the site exception stored in Settings.

Even after l add the site as an exception, l occasionally get a warning telling me that some contents on a given page, have been blocked for my security, and l'm asked if l want to allow the blocked content. When l allow it, the page is still exactly the same! I cannot reproduce this phenomenon right now. I'm not sure how to make it happen.
Yea, looks good now, thanks. Hopefully that will keep me logged in!Kenni wrote:It seems that the source of that page was polluted by your browser cache.

What browser is that again? Let's encrypt is literally used by hundred of thousands of sites, so the certificate can't be the problem.
There's the occasional warning when people link to http resources in thread instead of https or use remote avatars with the http prefix, but that only spawns warnings like all browsers would do.
Are you sure you don't have something installed that elevates the SSL security or plug ins that do the same?

A quick Google tells me that the browser is just called "Browser" although one user calls his "Tabitha".Kenni wrote:What browser is that again? Let's encrypt is literally used by hundred of thousands of sites, so the certificate can't be the problem.
Could you recommend a similar site that l can check out? So far, it's just ReasonTalk.com that is the problem, and only since the maintenance a few weeks ago.
Hmm ... l'm not very technical, sorry.Kenni wrote:There's the occasional warning when people link to http resources in thread instead of https or use remote avatars with the http prefix, but that only spawns warnings like all browsers would do.
Not a clue, but please bear in mind, it's only this site, and only since maintenance, and l don't believe anything has changed on my device in all that time.Kenni wrote:Are you sure you don't have something installed that elevates the SSL security or plug ins that do the same?
Oh and please remember that the issue with favicons missing from the Bookmarks list, was with Firefox, on Linux, not the BlackBerry.
Update: Favicons now display again, when l bookmark on Firefox in Linux. Thanks!
Hope you get the site certificate thing solved. I'll be willing to test out any site with a similar certificate

Update: I've found another site using the same Encryption Authority - "Let's Encrypt Authority X3" - and this site too is blocked by BlackBerry's BBOS10:
audinate.com (that site has some cool looking software, it was recommended to me on another thread)
audinate.com (that site has some cool looking software, it was recommended to me on another thread)
Alright then, then it's definitely security settings in the browser. Lets encrypt is a trusted CA when it comes to certificates. Reasontalk is even configured to rule out insecure ciphers, which makes the site score A+ on all tests (97/100)

Hm okay, so l'll just go back to my OP*: The site isn't loading as it used to load, since your upgrade, for whatever reason (although nothing has changed at my end) ... Thank you for your time.
* Favicon issue now fixed by you
* Favicon issue now fixed by you
I'm sorry, but I haven't really fixed anything. The favicon issue was non-existent, and since you report back now on it, it seems it was a local cache problem.
The update tightened security on the site. That includes complying to standards old browsers don't follow, like old instances of Explorer, Firefox and quite possibly, whatever browser is sitting within your blackberry OS.
I know Firefox updates on Linux is something people tend to forget. What version are you running?
And what browser is your blackberry running?

OK I probably just updated my FireFox that's all it took to fix the favicon thing.
As for my BlackBerry browser, as stated earlier, it has no name, except perhaps "Browser".
It could well be that BlackBerry OS (BBOS10) has slipped behind the times. I myself have suggested specific improvements to BBOS10 on their forum, and instead got trolled for it by 2 "loyal" users who start actual fights while moderators watch. So it may just be that BBOS10 has just gotten outdated.
Anyway, bug reported, thanks.
