Best way to fake a Doldy B, C curve with Reason?
I have some old cassettes I need to transfer. I have this small basic portable cassette player with no Dolby option. Is it possible to approximate this? I may just use a pro transfer service for the most precious cassettes, but not so much for most. I want to do it in Reason but I am open for any solutions.

I would assume using a low pass and high pass filter to your liking.bxbrkrz wrote:I have some old cassettes I need to transfer. I have this small basic portable cassette player with no Dolby option. It's more than just a curve isn't it? Doesn't Dolby also involve some compression and/or expansion?

Yes, and Dolby C was multi-band to boot IIRC, which is going to make your conversion difficult at best unless you can get a hold of the actual specs (good luck with that…).jonheal wrote:It's more than just a curve isn't it? Doesn't Dolby also involve some compression and/or expansion?

You could try to hunt down a decent tape deck, with a dolby option, they sell for cheap these days.

Doldy? Are you sure you don't mean Dublin?
Yeah to what Data_Shrine said - there are a ton of cassette decks at used consignment, Goodwills, Thrift shops, pawn shops...very cheap
Bring a tape with you, and maybe a set of headphones - some have 1/4 " monitor jacks so you can hear how well they (still) play...

Yep. Thanks guys, getting an old deck with "Doldy B" is my best option.
