REs might be constrained to the same range of capabilities as stock devices [/quote]
stock devices are constrained? How ? (Honest question)
I always thought that stock devices could be as powerful as any VST devices out there...my thinking was that Proprllerheads where purposefully holding back any stock devices update as to not compete or as to not make RE look weak!
Thor can Panel switch with ease. NNXT,NN19 can load samples...heck even RV7K can now load user made samples. Maybe I'm wrong and there are way smarter people on this thread then me that I hope would clarify whether or not stock devices are constrained the same as REs

If propellerhead where to simply add the capability to load user samples onto Malstrom In an update...I would probably not even ask for an RE version of Mlastrom. But not updating the core devices "AT ALL" yea... makes it highly likely that I would buy a device like Malstrom. And when That devices ever shows up in the shop..I wonder if it'll even have all the features/routing modulation ability of Malstrom for what ever price!
My opinion is that Propellerhead REASON needs a complete rewrite!
P.S: people should stop saying "No it won't happen" when referring to a complete rewrite of REASON. I have 3 letters for ya....VST

Thor has another unsung feature that surpasses even VST capability, and that's being able to route audio and CV output from Thor out to devices then back to Thor, further process in the modulation matrix and then output (even via filters and delay) all in a single render batch (providing there are no actual circular processing loops).

True!
Stock devices are and can be as powerful any VSTs. Propellerhead made a decision not to build anything other device stocked onto Reason, in favor of selling them externally for a higher margin, instead of bundling them in the possibly for ever one time price of $399...so the rumors where true, they are a business!

I decided to work exclusively in Reason today, and rediscovered "Alligator". Sometimes you forget what you already have!

I think reduced price upgrades, or upgrade with a device as well as store credit with each Reason purchase might provide a value proposition similar to previous offerings.

But if R8 was their best selling upgrade I'm a little doubtful that what clearly must be working will be "fixed," unless buyers remorse causes eventual sudden halts to rack extension purchases and less frequent upgrades.

Haha! You just wasted five minutes of my life looking up an old ASCII table!
(shrug) a translator could have done it in 5 seconds :puf_bigsmile:
Oh, you kids and your new-fangled Googles. :)
Still nostalgic about the old days, writing songs with my Amiga 500, Korg M1, and Ensoniq ASR-10 sampler.

As long as developers continue to create new rack extensions and reason users continue to buy rack extensions, the probability of Propellerhead changing its resale policy is unlikely. More significantly, as long as Propellerhead continues to cultivate a growing base of customers who enjoy starting songs on their iPhone, finishing them in Reason, and uploading their creations to Discover, it is not likely they will change the direction that has dismayed many users here on this forum. Welcome to the 21st century.

"well tell me why, I don't like RE's...well tell my why....I don't like RE's"

What a waste of GOOD talent.
