Guitar octave pedal in Reason?
I created a factory patch based on classic octave dividing concepts (flip flops). It's called "Sub Harmonic Generator" and it's in (for some reason) Multi FX. Crude but effective on some things.

Polar is awesome for guitar. It's like a POG on steroids and sounds really good. Tracking is great and the latency really isn't too bad at all.

Reason does have pitch shifting built in, and it can be achieved in several different ways. Polar is just more advanced and a pitch-specific device.kitekrazy wrote:Sad that other DAWs have this function built in without buying an add on.

Wow, very very interesting! I was in the process of answering that as far as I remember the classic Boss octave down effect used a frequency divider method, and didn't think it was anywhere available in Reason... I'm re-evaluating Thor all the time!selig wrote:I created a factory patch based on classic octave dividing concepts (flip flops). As far as octave up, an absolute/rectifying function in a waveshaper (Thor has one) is perfect if one is after the Foxx Tone or Fuzz Face sound.
My advice is to roll off the tone (low pass) of any signal fed into these, as they need a strong fundamental to produce more musical tones. Monophonic signals are therefore preferred.
Oh, I should mention another strategy, which I really like: pitch tracking! Using Neptune to track the fundamental of a monophonic, as clean as possible source and driving a synth shifted up or down an octave is super fun! Even more fun, is driving the frequency of a ring modulator/frequency shifter (Echobode as a CV input for that)

Kuassa’s Whammo gets my unreserved recommendation if you’re still looking for a dedicated effect.

This is a thread from before my time
Wow, this is an old thread.
Polar's latency has always taken away a lot of the enjoyment for me.
We've seen a few other RE options released since this thread was last active:
Turn2On Ghammy
Turn2On Drop and Lift
Kuassa Whammo

Yes we already have for this needs:
Ghammy pitch-shifter and Harmonizer inspired by pedal Whammy
Drop n Lift transposer, inspired by Whammy DT
Also:
Coriolis Force, double pitch-shifter, inspired by pedal Coriolis Power
And SubColours, octave diver and sub harmonics generator, inspired by Octave Divider pedal from MuTronics

Yep. I bought Polar when it came out and that latency just killed it for me almost immediately.
