Currently I am working hard to create a Refill that is entitled "space ambient". This will be a free refill for Reason 7 and above, and currently I am aiming to release a refill that kind of fits in the Realm of Ambient sounds, with a touch of "Hydlide" if you will.

On my "blog" I am publishing some "background" articles on how this whole thing is developed right about now.
As I am setting the release date for 20 May 2015, don't expect this thing to be as large as Thors Hammer (since that took almost a year to complete. So set your expectations accordingly).

You can find the package here (approx 66Mb)

This package includes:
- 31 insert effects
- 28 NN-XT patches
- 24 wav files
- 2 Thor utility patches (which are often used inside the combinators)
- 126 combinator patches for leads and stabs
- 126 playable sound effect using the 28 NN-XT patches
- 610 pads all combinator patches based on the 31 insert effect

For further reading, I will present you the main engines. I will update these as the refill progresses / posts are updated:

Sorry, "free refill" is too cheap for that! You should consider "pay what you want" or "beerware" at minimum ;) !

Its a bit mixed. Most of the pads I am working on the wave forms are hand picked for every single device I start with. Since I am focussing on the Subtractor atm, most of the sounds are 32 different wave forms (since the sub doesn't have more). I have been starting with a couple of malstrom set ups as well. Where the malstrom set ups have more flexible modwheel controls on to reshape the wave form on every malstrom (Motion = -64 , Modwheel > Index for instance).
For a fair comparison I am mostly using Saw waves on my blog so my readers might hear the differences between the different set ups.
There is a segment I am working on which is called "soundfx" which contain 22 different NN-XT patches. These 22 patches will be re-used but layered in different context and so on so the sound effect itself will be different in every single patch.

Awesome to hear EnochLight! :)
Even while I recorded this vid in R8, I am still bunny hopping from R5 > R6.5 > R7.1 > R8.2

just letting you guys know that I have added 3 more engines to the initial post.

Only question I have right about now, should I really bother using buttons on insert effects? I am quite not used using them in my own productions. Just let me know what your take on this.

Thanx in advance.

hey hydlide, read your blog posts and like the space ambient refill already!

I'm always happy when combinators offer some control, whether used as insert or send-fx, since they often inspire me to manipulate the sounds and record the automation.

Awesome! Feedback like this inspires me to tweak things. I'll see how I can keep things interesting on the rotaries / buttons / modwheel and so on.

While this is mostly "effect driven" stuff that I am doing, some parts might be a bit subtle (like, there is a change, but you might not really hear that its changing... but its there). Ambience is a nit picking this, and ambience people often think this way. Lets say you want space with 20ms of delay vs space in 10ms delay. For normal people it is just a delay, but in the realm it is a difference of 20ms and 10 ms. If you catch my drift on this one.

I might add, that not every patch I am creating will be about the "ms" parts. but some do ;)

I hardly used the buttons on my combi's ... so doesnt bother me. if i wish to turn something on and off...that is easily automatable.

It didn't really bother me either, however I did manage to program some of these buttons. Since most of the effects are meant as "to open / to close" with a motion. Ambience (in the realm I often go for) is done with subtle changes while a sound progresses over time (there for I focussed mostly on the rotaries / modulation wheels).
Most of the buttons are just switches that just turn on / off an effect (eg: chorus / delay / reverb / or something really crazy). While I will admit that not every combinator will have these buttons programmed due to the fact that I ran out of ideas what to program under a button (with actually having an additional value for that specific combinator set up).

But then again, it is all rack based. So if someone really misses a specific effect they can always plug this stuff in there by themselves. That is the nice thing about modular :)

I'll tell you the truth I've been looking foward to this far more than the Studio One V3 announcement.

I can't wait to crack this open tonight.

Thank you very much Edwin (Hydlide) your contributions to the community are always awesome and always welcome here!!!
