Nektar Panorama Remote Maps Thread
So you own a Nektar P Series controller? That is fantastic news! My personal take on this series of controllers is that there is no other controller that integrates this well and offers as much depth into the functionality of Propellerhead’s Reason and the supporting Re from 3rd party developers. One of the great aspects of the P-Series is that Re devices can be mapped in whole to the controller’s remote map. This is done without having to balance a number of controller faders, buttons and knobs with a finite set of presets. Many controllers will only offer say 20. The P1, P4 and P6 allows for continual building of supported devices in its remote map and allows multi-page set ups through menus so that ALL parameters are mapped. Switching back and for the between tracks and the controller updating with a new setoff control parameters is a snap with all knobs and faders clearly labeled. It’s pretty slick. Only drawback is that Nektar can’t see into the future to map devices that aren’t released yet. Yeah… a bummer. So once the user gets a recently released device it 99.9 % of the time will not be able to be controlled with your Nektar immediately. It is not until a map is made and then included in newest update. Sometimes this can take a while.
Good News!!!! Nektar has provided some instruction on how to create your own maps and modify if you see fit. Hopefully over time this knowledge base will grow and provide more instruction and templates to make it easier for its users to create their own to append their remote map. In hopes that people are willing to learn this step I have created this thread for users to post their maps to share with the community and if need be make requests. I will update this thread with better information as it is available and help aid in better organizing our efforts to make best use of and keep current this wonderful controller. Any thoughts, advice or suggestions are certainly welcome. Thanks in advance for sharing!

How do I use any of these maps in this thread?
Adding any of these maps to your remote map is pretty easy. Get yourself a decent text editor. This can probably be done in notepad but some programs are better suited for editing code files such as these. There are several free ones available on the web. Simply find the Panorama.remotemap (see Nektar's Remote Mapping Instruction) and open it up. Scroll all the way to the bottom of file. Put your cursor at the end of the last text of code and hit enter twice. This will allow for a separation between the existing code of the file and what you are about to append. Then go to this thread and copy the code from within the window of the device map you'd like to copy. Select all of that code and copy and go to your editor. Then paste the recently copied code to the end. Save the file over the old one and you should be done. Next time you start Reason that device should be available to you.
Bit of Advice : It is always a good idea to keep a backup copy of your official and last known working copy (if appended) version of remote maps before making any changes. In the event you have issues it is easy to overwrite the panorma map with a known working one.

To add some substance I have taken a few maps I posted the previous discussion thread. I had been talking to Justion with Nektar who will more than likely be including some if not all of these in the next update. But I post them here for those who want to control these (to the date of this post) not yet Re devices should they have them. Perhaps also they can be used to learn how to map your own devices. As such I offer the following :

Wow, Lizard. You always have something for this little community of ours. I remember when you shared all those drum libraries on the old forum. Unfortunately, I bought Impact LX88 because P6 wasn't big enough. I still drool over it though. I hope they release P8 or at least P7 at some point.
Thank you for these remote maps. Great effort.

Thanks for all these maps! When I have time to dive into this, I'll add some here as well...
Goan doesn't do Goa, he likes samples, weirdness, beats

Thanks Wook and Goan! I look forward to any maps you want to throw at this thread! Justin with Nektar asked if I it would be alright to add any of these in future updates and as far as I was concerned I said sure. It is for the greater good. In the meantime.....

I just tried adding CrapRE, but it doesn't appear to do anything on my P4. I can't browse patches, etc. When I select Instrument on my P4, it just gives me a weird blank screen that's "dead". If I remove the code in the Remote file, functionality is restored.
I'm using Programmer's Notepad on Windows to edit the file.

The "tabbed" spaces ARE very important to the code working so if they are interpreted as just spaces you WILL get an error. What I may do for the purpose of this thread is maintain an unofficial addendum remote map file with a link to the items collected in this thread and make one file downloadable where all you need to do is open it text editor and copy to end of your own remote map. As Nektar updates their maps a new file can be created of the ones not included in the official update. I may still just leave the maps we create here for learning purposes and discussion. I hope others will create ones for the devices they have and can add to group. I have a lot of re but know I don't have them all. :D You need the device to get all the parameter names. So where I don't have some others can fill in the gap. Or.... I'll still create them if someone wants to send me all the info. Maybe I can work on making some sort of form for the necessary details. Who knows?

What information from RE developers would help the effort along?Lizard wrote:You need the device to get all the parameter names. So where I don't have some others can fill in the gap. Or.... Tim (the brains behind our Reason integration) says that, he was told there is a way to query a device for it's parameter names. I think there is a key-command which will result in a list of parameter names being copied to the clipboard. We haven't gotten that to work.
I do know that the parameter names listed in a patch file are not necessarily the same as the parameter names presented to the Remote system. Same goes for the patch names in the Tool tips and the Combinator's programmer. If an RE dev has some insight as to what parameters names are presented to the Remote system and if there is a way to get lists of parameters from Devs, that would help a lot. It would be even nicer if there was a way Panorama could get parameter names directly from Reason through the Remote system. That would be awesome!

I'm an RE developer, and also registered for Remote, but haven't done much with the protocol yet except read over the docs.
I can confirm that RE developers have enough control over the naming of the Remote items that they can really screw things up, and make the Remote names completely inconsistent with the control labels. (Can't say too much about the RE SDK internals though, because of an NDA.)
Looking over the Remote docs, it does appear that a smart enough controller could build a list of all Remote items and get their names (again specifics are best left between other registered devs and out of public view).
It is also very easy for developers to simply pull this information out of their code, but it isn't in the same format as a remote map, and has to be converted. That's what I was asking. Without having to write a full remote map, is there a list of specifics that a developer can provide that would make it easier for those who are making the maps?

@Scuzzyeye
As a developer thanks for taking interest in this! There is a great thread here that lists several Remote Map Lists for various 3rd party devices. One was originally started by Koshdukai on the Propellerhead forums but one has been adapted here and put in a sticky by Jiggery-Pokery (Matt Black). It is a great thread that lists all the remote maps for all types of controllers. But like any other thing needs updating with the newest and latest devices. Developers and users can make these and upload there if they like as a resource. in this case a Nektar Map Creator can have pretty much everything they need off that Remote Map including the Scope which includes company official name and product ID. It is designing in the blind of course but all the information is there but could pose a challenge in design as it may not be as clear to if a control is better suited as a button, knob or fader. For example a knob or switch could be boolean in reality (like a sync/free knob) and may be better as a button.
It may be also beneficial for a developer as they are developing new products to contact Map creators and include them during testing phase. Justin of course works for Nektar and this would give them the opportunity to see it in advance before it is even released to public. I hope to see more people who are capable of creating these maps join in and hopefully they may be part of existing bet test groups. This could possibly speed up the process in having less of a waiting time from day of product delivery.

It's great that's there's any resource for map files. I can't help but think a site dedicated to this type of thing would be better suited (no copy and paste problems). Livid Instruments was once keeping a Github repository, but that's fallen out of date. It'd be wonderful if someone could set up a website where developers can paste a list of their Remote names, and then it could be turned into a proper file for download. Even better if it was a two-step process where after the list is provided each control then has options to indicate what type it is.
I wish I could help out to build such a thing, but my time is stretched thin right now. Maybe in a couple months if nothing has taken off by then.

Well what I could do here is gather them all into one file and make a link in the first post. This would be for any of the files not in the current map release by Nektar. In this manner one could simply download the file then open up in a text editor of their choice and copy the whole file (with proper formatting) at the end of the current official release. Then they are up to date. Would that be better? I still like having the code so that someone can see how the map works should they be willing to learn. Some folks just want to have the latest. Update thread the other day to include a list of Re that are NOT mapped. I am starting to work on Re I don't have so assistance is appreciated. I have been working off the Remote Scopes Thread in the RE Section to put together more maps. I started with the simple ones. The Unofficial Remote Map file (in the first post) includes all of the maps to date. If any P-Series owners who update could verify functionality of any of the following it would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks!

Oops, I missed this post. Hard for me to say what other people would prefer, but if doing both, an occasionally updated archive (you might want to use the ISO-8601 date format, YYYY-MM-DD so if people have multiple copies, they sort nicely), and each individual device, isn't too much extra work, that's probably best.Lizard wrote:Well what I could do here is gather them all into one file and make a link in the first post. All Sugar Bytes: parameters seemed messed up. Some knobs work, some don't. None of the display readouts change at all - at least they don't appear to. Navigating patches works though [names displayed correctly].

Sugar Bytes. Ok their Re are kinda messed up to begin with. The problem with their stuff is that there is a pull down menu on most of them which is considered to be a value switch property. This meaning that based on it's selection it will change which remotable tiem it is to control. Most common we see are SYNC switches that change a control from free to sync mode. Issue with sugar bytes is that their "switch" is not a remotable item which only allows me to map a knob to each individual property. When drop down is in free mode you won't see the value move if you operate the sync knob. Oddly it is actually still changing value of that but would have no effect on patch. So... this leads me to your opinion. Is it better to remove them altogether to avoid the confusion or leave them as it still does operate most of the control (except dropdown)? I am interested for your opinion.
GQ-7. Are you absolutely sure you created a track for it in the sequencer? It will of course not respond unless done. On my machine I do have control of GQ-7. I would not expect it has no control at all. Verify for me if you can. If still same then I will ask Justin what could be the issue.
GClip Waveshaping. This is most likely on my end and I don't have the proper info. The remotes were taken from the remote thread. Does it recognize GClip at all? Like in the upper right corner does it say "GClip"? If so then I have the Product ID correct. If not then I don't. Also, can you confirm that the remote items are named correctly? If you right click and do a remote override do the remote items match the names listed below? This would help a lot!

Without getting into specifics, there are good reasons for being able to dissassociate the internal property name, the one that gets listed in patch files (and that's assuming the device even uses patches that could theoretically be used to call a Remote list), from the name displayed in Remote. During construction, things do get changed, and at some point it tends to be easier to change just the text that gets displayed for Remote properties and GUI text pop-ups, than the "under-the-hood" property name used in the code. Sometimes one needs to change that text to add clarity, or perhaps even the purpose of a control changed completely. That's why PH require Remote uses the GUI "proper text" strings with spaces between words, rather than no spaces between words, or underscores between words etc. So end-user clarity is a big part of it as well. The GUI pop-up text can also be used almost like a help file, offering specific usage info; I've done that a couple of times. In that scenario that info isn't not necessarily beneficial in a Remote label.ScuzzyEye wrote:.
I can confirm that RE developers have enough control over the naming of the Remote items that they can really screw things up, and make the Remote names completely inconsistent with the control labels.
It is also very easy for developers to simply pull this information out of their code, but it isn't in the same format as a remote map, and has to be converted.
Also, with IDT, the script compiling can play merry havoc with Remote values in some situations, especially if there are many properties that have very similar names (for example, Drawbar 1, Drawbar 2, Drawbar 3 - that's a very oversimplistic example, but you get the gist; it required a lot of thought for do 10 presets for 9 drawbars with just 4 short-form characters ).
That's why it is important that devs just provide a dedicated Remote list on release, although I do find it a pain that things like tab spacing, which is essential to be right in order for Remote to work, tends to get stripped out of pdfs and websites.
This would be awesome if developers would do this. It sure makes creating maps in the blind easier. As far as documenting the maps where PDF and websites rearrange tabs a developer can offer a simple TXT file. this should maintain tabs. Or, in selectable documentation you could do something like the following :JiggeryPokery wrote:That's why it is important that devs just provide a dedicated Remote list on release, although I do find it a pain that things like tab spacing, which is essential to be right in order for Remote to work, tends to get stripped out of pdfs and websites.
Map -> Knob 1 -> -> Channel 1 Level -> -> -> Channel1
If someone copies the subject text they at least know the can select areas between Knob 1 and Channel 1 Level and hit tab x2. A little work but aft a few times not so back and clearly makes the remote map developer aware of the syntax over time. Yeah?
Also I have added a few more maps for those willing to do so to verify. The download in the first post has been updated. Please anyone if you can let me know what works as well as what what doesn't work it would be appreciated. I want to be able to validate them all so it is also just as important that if you have one test and if you see NO problems with them I can mark them off as validated and good for use. Thanks!
